I think you purists really want the Republicans creamed by the Democrats for decades and decades.

Woah.

Since when is fieldmarshaldj a "purist"?

*blinks*

AA, I have great respect for you as a '97 Freeper, but this charge against fieldmarshaldj is most unbecoming of someone like you. It's like a low blow, a last resort because you have no rational or credible argument as to why we as Freepers should back Romney.

In any case, unlike Calvin Coolidge--the last governor of Mass. who served as President, and, aside from Reagan, the last genuine conservatarian to maintain that office--Romney is not actually a conservative, and that's a good enough reason for me to refuse to support his candidacy, should he choose to run again in 2012.

I failed to mention, having big government RINOs in charge of the party is exactly what gets us “creamed”. See 2006 and 2008.

That’s when voters rejected the GOP because they were too conservative? No, it’s when conservative voters stopped seeing the difference between R and D because of President Bush and GOP congressional leaders outright abandonment of the idea of smaller government.

I’ll reiterate my critique of your silly talking point term “purist” since you used it more than once.

Having a standard for a Presidential candidate doesn’t make you a ‘purist’. Romney is a proven lousy Governor. And to this day he defends the unacceptable and massive failure that is Romneycare. (The failure of which is reason enough to decry Obamacare.) We must take great care in selecting our Presidents, considering how the last one screwed us. If Romney runs America like ran his state he will make the Bushes look like a picnic.

Rather than play gotcha games with “If Romney was the nominee would you vote for him” you should be helping ensure that no one has to make that unpleasant decision.

A RINO President is better than a democrat? The one tends to lead to the other. Bush SR. begat Clinton. Bush JR. begat Obama. No RINO President has left the county or the Republican party better than he found it. We desperately need a decent to good President.

You are THICK! I said if there was a CHOICE between a LIBERAL like OBama and a RINO like Romney, I'd go for Romney to STOP the CRAP that is going on with LIBERAL DEMOCRATS in charge!!!!!!

I would NEVER vote for a RINO IF THERE WAS A CHOICE between a Conservative and a LIBERAL!!

The PURISTS that say they will NEVER support a RINO EVER is CHILDISH and is what has got us into some of this mess.

I voted for McCain because I wanted SARAH! I didn't stay home and sit on my hands because McCain was a RINO.

We need to have CLOSED PRIMARIES so we don't end up with RINOS.

RE :”I think you purists really want the Republicans creamed by the Democrats for decades and decades.

This assumes that a McCain win in 2008 would lead to future election wins. That is completely faulty logic. The loss of Mccain has led to an uprising against democrats, and a wave of conservative best sellers and polling that suggests most people want to call themselves conservative now. Do you think any of that would happen with a president “work with the other side” McCain.

The problem with the wrong republicans being in power (at the national level) is that they mis-represent capitalism and conservatism. When Obama and Pelosi do socialist stuff, it is seen as a failure at socialism. But Mccain was largely supported by ‘conservatives’ and moderates in November and sometimes spoke that language, as does Romney now.
