McCaskill Town Halls 8-31 in Springfield, West Plains (MO)

Posted on 08/30/2009 8:26:00 AM PDT by GnuHere

The Springfield one is downtown at the Gillioz Theatre at 12:30, the West Plains one is earlier in the day. Any Freepers showing up? Admission is first-come, first-served, although they request advance registration. I can't come; I would expect Spfd to likely designate a protest area but have not read that for sure.

Springfield is only 30 miles from me! I REALLY wanna go!

I don’t know how far McCaskill’s gonna get at a Springfield town hall meeting. She doesn’t have very many fans in Southwest Missouri.

Snooze-Leader link, if you haven’t seen it. Does mention a conservative group being there, hopefully they are FReepers.

I hope they don’t bus in SEIU members from other areas. As we know, this is a VERY conservative area. And I can’t believe she’s holding it in a 1,130 seat theater. That’s ridiculous! She needs a much larger venue than that. There’s gonna be a TON of more angry people than 1,130. I can guarantee it.

Agree with her or not, you have to give the senator props for actually going to town halls and meeting with (often angry) constituents. Though there have been some venues where the audience was "stacked" with union goons and thugs, she's also gone into open public forums where the crowd has been less than friendly.

This, as opposed to the cretin from across the state line, Dennis Moore, a dem representative from Kansas. He refuses to attend any sort of "town hall" meetings, because he's afraid of his constituents, and has publicly admitted it. He's also refused multiple requests to appear on radio talk shows, and even refused to attend a moderated forum, where a local radio station agreed to have security and guaranteed that there would be a balanced audience.

Plus the media has already noted what the parking problems will be like downtown - but the only other place big enough would be some of the MSU venues, which on a weekday would also be a parking nightmare.
Maybe there is a reason they want a manageable number, or they just want to make it folksy and not as big as say, a campaign rally in an airport hangar.

I agree with props for that - she has been yelled at a lot and at first seemed surprised by the anger - I hope she at least by now “gets” why people are mad.

Re: the above SEIU comment, the local dude has already done an interview, but I don’t know their membership.

Just read some comments on the paper’s website - I did not know that anybody who opposes govt healthcare or Queen Claire is an “inbred mouthbreathing teabagger”. Nice.
