The estate tax is going back up because the Democrats could reauthorize the lower rate this year any time they wished, and they simply don’t want to. It takes a healthy bit of chutzpah (and dishonesty) to blame the GOP for that.
Yes, that should have been a campaign issue last year and should be as well come 2010.
Republicans, by and large, stood for the permanent elimination of the estate tax, and that was what the Bush administration requested from Congress, IIRC. Instead, a compromise with the left forced the elimination of the estate tax to be sunsetted.
I was well aware that a 'Rat takeover of Congress could have very negative financial consequences for those with parents or grandparents who pass on. I'm surprised that the 'Rats haven't yet tried to reinstitute the estate tax earlier. You can bet that if the retain control next year, they will not only reinstitute the old estate tax, but will decrease the deductions and/or raise the rates on it, so that more people will be paying more to Big Brother when their loved ones pass on.
Socialists detest the idea of inherited wealth. That's why they want to punish the beneficiaries, not because they want to incentivize keeping people alive. Their ideas on taxes always put government first; incentives for decent, moral, and productive behavior play little or no role in their thought processes.
Or both.
Incidentally, Weisberg is a clever Lib/Commie. He is using a technique of propaganda called Turnspeak. The idea of turnspeak is to accuse the other side (that's us) of doing the odious things their side is doing; e.g., killing grandma.
This propaganda technique was first used by Josef Goebbels during the time leading up to Munich and has been elevated to an art form by the Arabs in their incessant war against the Jewish State.
If you pay attention to Lib propaganda, they use this technique a lot. It is clever psychologically because the audacity and immorality of the pronouncements paralyze the listener as most cannot believe anyone could be so evil as to blame their side for the exact sins of the side doing the accusing.
They said the same thing during the battle over Hillarycare. We know how far it got them then. The elderly are already starting to question Obamacare, and they’re not liking the answers they’re getting.
That's like saying that the crowing rooster caused the sun to come up.
Apparently Weisberg doesn't acknowledge the fortuitous coincidence that in the 70+ years since Social Security has been around, the combined medical advances achieved by mankind are greater than in all of previous history! (Heck, when Social Security came in, the first antibiotics were just being made available, and penicillin was only in its research phase.) You have to be complete airhead to imply that Social Security has been a major factor in increasing life expectancy and decreasing death rates.
I thought it was satire all the way through. I kept looking for the satire label some place. Nobody with a rational mind could think up something that illogical. Therefore, he’s an idiot.
Honestly, I hadn't read your post at the time I posted, but I suppose great minds think (at least somewhat) alike.
BTW, the Bush proposed Social Security "privatization" reform was for younger workers only, optional, and limited to a very small percentage of the individual's FICA tax "contribution."
Heh.
Yup. Yer right on the money.
Too bad there’s so many dimboobs out there who don’t see through this.
I don’t know how Newsweek can live with itself. Or the editors. You know they know better.
They’re just trying to get in on Sarah’s death panel hype.
Monkey see monkey do.
Ezekial Rahm has no more “quality years” left. He just hasn’t figured it out yet, but if I were him I’d avoid travel to Oregon.

Thanks for the ping!
Whatever their motivation, psycholgical or propogandistic, you’ll see modern day Liberals (neo Communists) do this a lot.
I think Hannity and company are wasting their breath on these people, although I find Hannity shrill these days and without much substance, just rehasing the rah rah I’m American and you’re not theme.
I find Beck much more substantial engaging. Also on radio, he’s funny.
Rush too, can persuade. But I think the Weisberg’s and Krugman’s of this world are never going to change their minds.
The things being said about Ted Kennedy make me want to vomit.
Not racism by white Americans, but racism by non-conservative white Americans. This is because conservatives would not vote for Obama no matter what his race. Weisberg is trying to hide the fact that only racism of non-conservatives was at issue in the election.
Thanks justiceseeker93.
