WACO (August 29, 2009)Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, held the second of three face-to-face town hall meetings Saturday in Waco on the controversial and complex health care reform bill now before the U.S. House, telling the crowd of about 1,200, Doing nothing is not a long-term option.
I consider health care to be one of the most important issues any Congress will face, Edwards said, promising to spend countless hours analyzing the legislation and to listen to views of residents of the district from all walks of life.
Edwards initially planned only to hold a district-wide telephone town hall meeting, but reconsidered the decision not to schedule personal appearances in the face of mounting criticism and with assurances from groups opposed to the reform bill that they would not disrupt the meetings.

I know some 912 guys that went down for that. I’ll post after action if I can get it.
To ALL the DEMS and their Town Hall Meetings...
We, the loyal opposition, will make you a deal...
DON’T LIE TO US.. We’ll have NO PROBLEMS...
Otherwise ... you don’t WANT to KNOW.
Well props to him for having the courage to face his constituents.
But don’t let them pull this “doing nothing is not an option” crap - again. No one ever said “so let’s do nothing” about this or any other issue. It’s a debating trick that the R’s seem to always fall for.
Who’s putting “our” alternative ideas out there? Like tort reform to cap malpractice lawsuits?
Sounds like he partly succeeded in making his constituents the issue instead of health care. If he’s afraid of his constituents, he should leave public life.
Libs say we’re doing nothing because OUR IDEAS DO NOT BEGIN WITH: ... The GOVERNMENT Shall...
If it doesn’t be with the government shall.. it does not exist and thus is NO IDEA..
makes sense to me ... or as little as a Liberal Idea could make sense
We need to start shouting loud and clear that WE are the EMPLOYER and they are our EMPLOEEES - not the other way around.
Edwards loves his buddies the lawyers. In tight with Baylor Law. Wish someone would ask him about that.
name me one thing run by congress that works as it is supposed to do. Medicare is broke, Social Security is broke, medicaid has created it's own special breed of parasites.
None of these congresscritters can assure you, me or anyone else what is in this bill or what will be added or sustracted from it once it reaches the desk of "the one".
Anyone thinking this group of Chicago thugs holds one smidgen of honesty in their body or soul is not paying attention. The democrats can pass this legislation without Republican help, let them.
Doing the wrong thing IS an OPTION?
“WE are the EMPLOYER and they are our EMPLOYEES”
But, if Congress keep up the SOS...then we are the EMPLOYER and they may be the IMPLODEE!
So “doing nothing is not an option” — I laugh. Where was this Dem and his buddies when Bush was trying to do something about Social Security???
I’ve been here 17 years and, until last re-districting, ol’ Douchebag Chet was my rep. It still amazes me that he gets re-elected in such a conservative area.
My 22 year old daughter attended Edwards meeting and was called on to ask a question. She asks him about the death committee and he said it didnt exist. She told him it did and related the comment the President made on ABC to the daughter who asked if her mother would have been treated under his plan. Edwards said he was not familiar with that comment, so my daughter gave him the URL reference so he could look it up. You got to love it when conservatives come armed with the facts to back up their claims. Ok you love it if you are looking for the truth. For anyone interested KWTX TV is going to post the entire meeting on their web site tonight.
I heard her ask that question today!! Good for her! I am looking forward to watching the entire event tonight!
