Recently the Congressional Rural Caucus, of which I am a member, sent a letter to the President urging him to personally visit rural areas during the Administration's rural tour this month in order to gain a first-hand understanding of the real need for a White House Office of Rural Policy. In the letter, the Caucus also requested a meeting with top White House officials to share bipartisan information about the many issues of specific importance to constituents in rural districts.

Small towns and rural communities are the heart and soul of this country. Our rural and agricultural towns have been hit especially hard by this economic crisis and I am committed to working with the bipartisan Rural Caucus to support them through these tough times. We must renew our commitment to rural communities by spurring business growth, supporting new infrastructure and creating new jobs. Making sure that our rural communities have the resources and support they need to thrive is one of my top priorities. An Office of Rural Policy could be a critical step toward strengthening rural communities and fueling economic development throughout rural America. Right now, many rural areas are struggling and they deserve our support more than ever. As Members representing rural districts, my colleagues and I in the bipartisan Rural Caucus understand that an effective Office of Rural Policy could help address the challenges currently confronting rural America and take the necessary steps to improve the lives of rural Americans.

In March, the Caucus sent a letter to President Barack Obama, calling for the White House to establish an Office of Rural Policy and marking the Caucus' first order of business as a reestablished body.

The Congressional Rural Caucus is a bipartisan working group of members dedicated to addressing the pressing and unique issues facing America's rural communities. The body serves to collectively address these challenges and promote legislation that includes sound rural policies. The Caucus is chaired by Congressmen Travis Childers (D-MS) and Adrian Smith (R-NE).

Well, One thing,speaking of infrastructure,it would be nice to get hi-speed innernet out here in the middle of freakin’ nowhere, but I’d much rather see that achieved by the private sector, thankyouberrymuch.
We’re still zippin’ along at a blinding 24kBps dial-up!

Yeah, there’s WildBlue satellite, but who the hell can afford THAT? If some enterprising co. could create hi-speed connection out here in the sticks with a 35$ or under pricepoint, they’d clean up on us hicks!
