Pal: Dying Kennedy spoke of reuniting with JFK, RFK -- Saw Obama carrying on family’s legacy
Boston Herald ^ | August 29, 2009 | Hillary Chalbot

U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy went to his deathbed looking forward to a reunion with his assassinated brothers - certain he could proudly tell them he had continued their legacy through the president who will deliver his eulogy today, U.S. Rep. William Delahunt told the Herald yesterday.

In a dramatic conversation with Delahunt, the ailing Kennedy “talked about a reunion with his brothers, and I’m confident he could say, ‘I did it. I carried the torch,’ ” said Delahunt. “From Jack to Bobby to the Obama moment, Teddy really was the bridge. He carried the torch and never wavered.”

The conversation is a rare glimpse inside Kennedy’s thoughts as he made peace with his life and prepared for his passing.

The dramatic and deeply personal presidential eulogy expected today at Kennedy’s Mass on Mission Hill speaks to the close bond that developed between Obama and Kennedy after the senior senator made his unexpected endorsement in January 2008.

“(Kennedy) saw in (Obama) much of himself. He knew there was something special in this individual,” said Delahunt, another early Obama supporter.

The endorsement was as much of a surprise to Obama as it was to anyone else, said longtime Kennedy friend Phil Johnston.

“I think for Obama it was a transformative moment on the campaign,” said Johnston. “I’m certain it infused the Obama camp with tremendous energy and enthusiasm, and as long as Barack Obama lives he’ll feel he owes a great debt to Ted Kennedy.”

So very sorry for your loss. A glioblastoma is an ugly cancer and I know your heartache. We know the deficits of these tumors. I have lost two close family members and three friends to this disease. That is why I find this crap about Kennedy’s deathbed writings and talking so ridiculous. Ironically, I saw a picture of Kennedy, after probably one of the surgeries or the biopsy. His location of the tumor was on his left side, which was precisely where my niece’s tumor was, and she could not speak coherently for the last 4 months of her life. Her handwriting was miniscule, so tiny no one could possibly read it and would trail off to scribbles and that was the last 6 months. Prayers up to you and your family.

Even on his death bed, this poor soul lusts for a mythical Kennedy Tower of Babylon.

No sorrow or repentance for the unborn souls of which he advocated their killing.

One has to wonder at the silliness of people who aspire to “build themselves up to lofty heights”.

The one quote that sticks out in my mind is when Rose Kennedy wanted to donate the Kennedy Home in Cape Cod to a Catholic seminary or monastary. Ted Kennedy’s response was an emphatic, “No Way ! “.....he went on to instruct his aged mother that it would be a dedicated Library to the Kennedy brothers...You can just hear him thinking..(mother, we are idolized by millions, we Kennedy’s.

So sad.

He ignored facts and as President Reagan said, “facts are stubborn things”. I remember in the early 1970s, Kennedy, a leading advocate for amnesty for draft dodgers, took questions at a public event (at least he had the honor to do this unlike current politicians). A man got up, told him he’d lost his son in Vietnam and asked just how he could be such an advocate for amnesty when his own brother, JFK, started the Vietnam War and his brother’s appointees (MacNamara, Rusk, Westmoreland) had so thoroughly botched it. Ted mumbled something incoherent and called on someone else with a friendlier question. Facts are stubborn things.

Old Joe Kennedy may not have been Satan incarnate, but he certainly understood the Old Sod's ways as well as any man who ever lived. He bribed the press with money, mortgages, women and all the vices that exist and in return the press sold him their souls to write glowing accounts of whatever Old Joe wanted whether it was to promote his sons or a business for his own personal financial gain. And once their soul had been sold to Joe for a harmless story about the success of one tiny business or the slight disregard for some infraction of the Kennedy clan, the reporter's soul was Old Joe's property forever and there was no redemption.

Barack Obama is perhaps the least grateful human being alive. If you saved his life at noon, he'd forget all about it by 12:01. Unless he could exploit the incident for political gain.

LOL

Gag me with a pitchfork. Delahunt has to be making up this stuff to the sound of his voice.

I’m not certain that every word Delahunt says is a fabrication, including the words “and” and “the,” but it’s the way to bet.

Old man kennedy was a racist and a mobster... he would not take kindly to a kenyan being adopted as a son.

I believe this BS was a made up fluff piece to bolster Obama. If Teddy really was contemplating his death I think he would be praying for forgiveness for all the abortions he supported and the death of Mary Jo Kopekne. I would hate to meet God with those sins on my soul.

"I bet Mary Jo will be waiting for him.

He didn’t talk of “re-uniting” with Mary Jo? Oops, wrong place!"

News Item: "Senator Ted Kennedy passes away."

Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.

They are truly building a tower of Babylon, to reach to heaven.

Yeah, and we all know what God did to that! What takes man years to build can be destroyed overnight, when the Almighty has had enough.

“I bet Mary Jo will be waiting for him.” With a nail ridden billy-club. Naaahhh....she'll be there to watch as Teddy is cast down. And she'll laugh. And laugh some more.

Personally, I think she is in the arms of Jesus being comforted while Ted sits in flames, sort of like the parable in Luke 16:19-31.

I imagine their victories are few. How funny, when it's the corrupt Kennedy family who is part and parcel of running the unfair, monstrous system in the first place.

Agreed. It seems it’s now open season for his plausible “friends and associates” to speak to the press and make all sorts of representations about what he was doing, saying and intending. I seem to recall this phenomenon at the end of Barry Goldwater’s life when his young 2nd wife released statements on his behalf which bore no resemblance to his long held positions. Kennedy’s supposed intentions and sentiments will gain similar elasticity now, and be stretched beyond all belief, simply because he is dead.
