Cheney: Obama Team Should Be Debriefing CIA Interrogators, Not Investigating Them

Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday said the Obama administration should be debriefing CIA interrogators about keeping the country safe rather than trying to punish them for doing their jobs.

In an exclusive interview taped to air this weekend on "FOX News Sunday," Cheney called the Justice Department probe of interrogators an "outrageous political act" that will do long-term damage to the United States' capacity to protect the country.

"We had a track record now of eight years of defending the nation against any further mass casualty attacks from al Qaeda. The approach of the Obama administration should be to come to those people who were involved in that policy and say, 'How did you do it? What were the keys to keeping this country safe over that period of time?'" Cheney said.

If I were one of these agents..I would be holding a press conference on the steps of the US Capital to announce ask for public support. I would request a jury trial..and quick.

I’d give anything to see that. I have no doubt that there are enough Americans still living in this country that they would get plenty of support.

The CIA has the goods on him and he’s out to shut them down. I dunno, but he better watch who’s toes he’s stepping on there.

Exactly. They are in government service operating under guidelines given to them by their superiors and the Justice Department.

If now you’ve decided you don’t agree with those guidelines, then issue new ones. Prosecuting guys who were faithfully executing the job under the guidelines they were given is first, just grandstanding, and secondly, its a betrayal of trust.

I agree with Cheney. O should be debriefing these men to find out, straight from the horse’s mouth, what works and what doesn’t. Whatever new guidelines he wants to issue should not be written without first talking to these men. They are not the enemy. They are on the job protecting us from the enemy.

All I could think of was from "A fish called Wanda":

"My father was in the Secret Service, Mr. Manfredjinsinjin, and I know perfectly well that you don't keep the general public informed when you are "debriefing KGB defectors in a safe house."

As Team Obama does its impersonation of Otto-Bama.
