Ellie Greenwich, who has died aged 68, co-wrote some of the most enduring pop songs of the 1960s and collaborated with the "Wall of Sound" producer Phil Spector on such classics as Da Doo Ron Ron, Be My Baby (both 1963), and River Deep Mountain High (1966).

They just got rid of an oldies staion in NoVa, replaced it with a classic rock.
RIP Ellie...great songs...a true talent.
Very interesting article - she is the one who discovered Neil Diamond! What great hits she wrote and co-wrote. God Speed Ellie! Da do Ron Ron Ron....
Leader of the PACK! zoom zoom.. Heaven has a sweet angel.
Ellie Greenwich (pronounced like Greenwich Village) was supposed to have discovered Neil Diamond. I think she wrote “Leader of the Pack,” very cool song from the mid-60s.
RIP.
Get XM or Sirius. They have channels dedicated to music of the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, along with other more artist-centric channels, like Elvis Radio, the Grateful Dead Channel, Frank's (Sinatra) Place, etc. Every genre of music you can think of is covered, all with no commercials.....
Sirius XM’s the only way to go anymore, for just the reasons you described. And yes, Ellie, may you indeed RIP.
Chuckling.
Classic rock is the new oldies.
What were once oldies are now nostalgia tunes.
I wasn’t a big fan of Imus, but I sometimes would listen to 105.9 on the way to work. Sean Hannity’s Scott Shannon was DJ on 105.9.
Yep, love my Siruius/XM radio. Lots of talk and news shows too, including Fox.
Ellie Greenwich was one of THE great songwriters. May God bless her and her family.
Her music lives on. XM Channel 6 plays her stuff fairly regularly. I've heard her played on Tom Petty's Buried Treasure show, too.
About the only broadcast radio I listen to anymore is Rush. I'd love to see him move to XM. The rest of the day it's XM in my shop. I also put XM cradles on both tractors, the lawn mower, my golf cart and in both airplanes. I have a couple of XM boom boxes, too. Yes, I'm addicted......
RIP.
LOL, even the lawn mower? Wow, good for you! Imho, I think most of the present music scene isn’t very good, but with Sirius/XM you get to listen to such a variety of music, whether it’s Frank Sinatra, classical, Motown, jazz, blues, classic Rock and Roll, etc. It guarantees that music like Ms. Greenwich’s songs will never die.
Yeah, I own a 70 acre farm with a small private airport on it. There is a LOT of grass to mow....
...with Sirius/XM you get to listen to such a variety of music...
This is one of the reasons why I like Tom Petty's show so much. He plays stuff I've never heard before on just about every show. Ditto Bob Dylan's show and some of the shows on Bluegrass Junction, Bluesville, etc. XM is worth every penny of the $8/month!
Your place sounds beautiful...enjoy the music.
I can forgive her for Neil Diamond because of her great songs.
