Disgrace: State Dept ready to cut off millions in aid to Honduras over “military coup”

This would be the same “coup” that was ordered by the country’s supreme court pursuant to its constitution and carried out with the support of the legislature, including members of Zelaya’s own party. Hillary’s held off on using that terminology until now because by law she’ll have to cut funding to Honduras once the formal assessment is made, but it looks like the moment of truth is at hand. It’s a travesty, but what do you expect? Obama’s hot to prove to the world’s tyrants that, unlike his cowboy predecessor, he’s a man they can do business with. And he’s invested enough political capital in this horrible decision by now — maneuvering to block Zelaya’s ouster before it happened, calling it “illegal” after it did, and slowly turning up the pressure ever since — that he’d lose face if he relented and embraced the new president. So here we are:

U.S. State Department staff have recommended that the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya be declared a “military coup,” a U.S. official said on Thursday, a step that could cut off as much as $150 million in U.S. funding to the impoverished Central American nation.

The official, who spoke on condition he not be named, said State Department staff had made such a recommendation to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has yet to make a decision on the matter although one was likely soon…

‘Constitutions’ don’t mean much...do they, ‘Mr. President’. After all.....they’re ‘malleable’ and ‘living and breathing’ to you.

First, I really dont know why we are giving aid to Honduras anyway, but I would suppose if we can give it to Zimbabwe, and Palestine and Israel, a few bucks to Honduras is no big thing.

Bama boy and Hillary need to get on the right side of this one. Right now they are on the side of Commies. But then, thats no surprise for the bama boy either.

In direct violation of the Honduran constitution and in open defiance of the Honduran courts, Zelaya tried to run after he was term limited out to set himself up as dictator presidente-por-vida, this is exactly what 0bama wants to do in 2016.

0bama is hoping to be able to cite the case of Zelaya as an international law precedent when it's his turn...

I'm still waiting for an outrage-free day from this scumbag in the Oval Office.

It's at least one contemptible outrage per day from Maobama. Often several.

How much evidence does America need before they realize the Putz is really a commie?

This Honduras matter has been handled in an embarrassing and despicable manner.

Well, if they do deny the funds, it’s certain that Bill and Hill’s condo in Honduras will no longer be theirs. Always look to the personal with these people. Chavez does not direct US policy, yet. The US ambassador, Llorens, is a Cuban American, and Bush appointee— very freedom oriented and understands very well Castroism and Chavez-ism. Honduras doesn’t need US ticket anyway, long as they have Cuban seed tobacco and, ahem, sugar that can compete vs. US tariff protected stuff.

They are certainly better off without our dollars if they, like our swinish democrap party would have to sell out their constitution to obtain them.

Oh yeah, one other thing. Honduras only has to wait out the US until its national elections in November. Zelaya won’t be and can’t be on the ballot— the issue is over. Then who has to eat crow- the old crow and her pal president Jeckle. About which heat, see- Chavez stopping diplo relations with Colombia over US troop efforts vs. cocaine marxist (like in Peru) in the Colombian war on Cocaina!!
Bamster can threaten all he wants- but too much and he might look like a cokehead (oops... he IS). Like Afghan— it’s all about the main product of a useless country- Taliban poppies. Oh and maybe getting Osama off his renal dialysis unit.

The other day I posted a news item out of Honduras translated from NAFBPO. They were blaming Obama for the coup. I wonder how many Hondurans think that?

This one is also frustrating. Some in Honduras believe they have the right to migrate here when they want. But the new regime is tightening up on their own visas/entries.

A Honduran views migratory reform in the United States

La Hora (Guatemala City, Guatemala) 8/17/09

(Following is a portion of an op/col. by Raul Molina)
It seems that immigration (in the U.S.) is acceptable only when it deals with the theft of brains and talent from other countries. But that is not the case when the workers of the world propose that, in today’s globalized world, human resources ought to enjoy total mobility. Once again, the leaders of neocolonialism strive to place limits on our aspirations.

Migratory reform has been suspended. This does not mean that Guatemala should stop its efforts to obtain a more just treatment for our fellow citizens. Guatemala is the most victimized country in the area of deportations. We’ll restart the discussions begun a few weeks ago in Chicago to redefine the concrete proposals which Guatemala’s government and society, including the migrants, must take to the United States authorities.

Guatemala must set forth clearly that Guatemalan migration to the North carries with it benefits for the United States economy, but high social costs and no growth for our country. For now, it serves only as an escape valve for our underdevelopment and dependency, but at the risk of losing the younger generations, the country’s future. The United States, as a dominant country which attracts masses of the unemployed and the poor, doesn’t wish the immigration of the undocumented, and neither do we. But the only way to halt the flow from Middle America is to generate growth in this region. If the United States doesn’t understand this, and it seems there is no lucidity, the migration from the south will not stop no matter how many fences, physical, virtual or repressive, they might put up on the border. Until the United States gets serious about the issue, it has the obligation of stopping its policies of persecution and criminalization of what it calls “illegal” immigration; to do otherwise, no matter how many excuses they use, must deserve our permanent and total condemnation.

Honduras revises visa policy

El Heraldo (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) 8/17/09

The open door policy of Manuel Zelaya’s government had allowed citizens from a variety of countries to enter Honduras with a visa issued by consular officers abroad without the need of approval from the central government. A number of visitors, many with fraudulent documents and aiming to enter the United States illegally, were from China, Ecuador and other Latin American countries. That policy has now been overturned by Honduras’ new government; now applicants from China, Russia, India, Cuba, the Dominican republic and others will have to have their visa application approved at the seat of government in Honduras before a consul may issue a visa.

Obama has two reasons to side with Zelaya—Zelaya is in the same mold as Chavez, Ortega, etc., and the man who took over as President of Honduras is white (son of an Italian immigrant to Honduras), not “mestizo” or of indigenous ancestry. The racial angle always seems to figure in Obama’s reasoning.
