.- This morning Dr. Miguel Diaz arrived in Rome with his family to begin serving in his new position as the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See. Ambassador-designate Diaz said that he and his family are looking forward to the coming weeks and that he hopes to "deepen and expand upon the special relationship" between the U.S. and the Vatican.
Dr. Miguel Humberto Diaz, arrived with his family this morning at Rome's Fiumicino International Airport. Prior to leaving the U.S. he was sworn in as ambassador on August 21 in Washington D.C., the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See said in a statement.
"I look forward to the coming weeks as my family and I put down new roots in Rome. I will be honored to serve President Obama and the American people in my new role, and it will be a unique honor to meet his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI," Ambassador-designate Díaz said.
Since President Ronald Reagan established formal diplomatic ties with the Holy See in 1984, the two states have worked together on a host of shared priorities, including religious freedom, inter-faith dialogue, peace and security, trafficking in persons, the environment, human rights and global health.
"I welcome the opportunity to deepen and expand upon the special relationship that has evolved between the United States and the Vatican over the past 25 years of formal diplomatic ties," Ambassador-designate Díaz added.
According to diplomatic protocol, Diaz will not assume his full responsibilities until he presents his letter of credentials from President Barack Obama to Pope Benedict XVI on a mutually agreed upon date. Díaz will refrain from granting interviews or participating in official events until that point in time, the embassy noted.
What do we know about the person who finally got this gig?
I hope the See refuses this perverts credentials.
“I hope the See refuses this perverts credentials.”
What’s that based on? I know nothing about the guy.

Don’t know if I’ve ever noticed the term “Holy See” before. Had to look it up. I only knew of the Vatican. Learn something every day.
I remember reading a news story that said this guy was either pro-abortion , or pro Homosexual agenda. But it’s been a while...
Not much more than you. I do know that he is the only candidate put forward by Obama to be accepted by the Vatican. According to Christian Telegraph:
Perhaps offering a clue as to what he plans to do as an ambassador, Diaz cited his academic and personal "commitment to public action and service," which he said has inspired him to play "a leading role in promoting cultural, racial, and religious diversity on American college campuses.""At the College of Saint Benedict/St. Johns University, I have worked with religious leaders to [engage] local communities in exploring the role of religion in uniting people. If confirmed, my service to the United States as ambassador would be a natural extension of this work."
The nominee named his experience at "creating dialogues related to cultural diversity, immigration, poverty, and the role of religion in society" as areas of intersection for his possible ambassadorship.

The pope will find a 'common ground' on which to work and I hope Dr. Diaz is a good listener because Benedict will be giving him an earful on life issues in the US.
Got me curious now....I’ll do a little homework.

Oh, I thought this said his vacation ambassador. Doesn’t he need a vacation czar, too?
Not something that would normally come up in conversation outsiode of a bunch of Catholics discussing ‘Church’ policy.
So I wouldn’t feel too bad about it. :o)

Only three senators turned up Wednesday for a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to consider President Obama’s nomination for Vatican ambassador, Miguel Humberto Diaz.
First, with respect to the Catholic Church and my Catrholic friends, THe United States should never have sent an ambassador to the Vatican, because it is primarily a RELIGION, not an actual “state,” though it is interpreted as such for any number of reasons by the UN and other internationalist bodies. Yes, Reagan erred on this point — one of his FEW.
Second, Diaz is NOT a “good” Catholic if he could suppot Kathleen Sebilius for HHS Secretary. THe Vatican SHOULD reject Diaz — but they won’t. Unfortunately, the Church as an institution still would rather “keep up appearances” than to confront those erring from the Faith. Consider Notre Dame, for instance.
To my Catholic friends who STILL stand for something, they often find themselves OUTSIDE the traditional framework of the Church, having to work around “the way things are” to try and return them to how they should be.
Well, if reports are true, the Holy See earlier rejected Caroline Kennedy. It is not unreasonable to assume that this guy’s credentials were vetted for any hint of pro-choice or embryonic research support.
Not good. I’m surprised the Vatican approved.
I think the Vatican turned down the first two nominees.
The Vatican turned down the earlier ones, and I don’t know why they accepted this twerp. He’s from Florida and while he looks like the queen of the month, I think he’s married. He’s a “theologian” who has taught at the seminary, to make it worse, and he’s not very bright, just very liberal. However, he’s a little less high profile than some of the other radical dissenters Bambi proposed, so I guess that may be why they accepted him.
