Between this and the WH taking over interrogation, CIA director isn’t a job worth having right now. There is no way the director can do the right thing for the organization when the WH wants to discredit and dismantle it. Personally, I think the CIA are a bad bunch to have as enemies...

I wonder if he’ll be replaced by a black panther?

No, that’s just silly!

I think Panetta probably has some modicum of respect for the CIA and its agents/staff...and sees this “investigation” as a total sham. Of course, he is privy to some of the CIA work not yet forwarded to Obama’s team, and knows such an investigation is dangerous to national security

I am stunned...frankly, it’d be nice to see mass resignations at the CIA. Hussein deserves the public embarassment and the folks at the Agency deserve to work for a better person.

I envision the entire agency gathering right in front of the HQ in Langley, have Panetta or someone of high rank read a statement like this:

“We, the men and women of the CIA, of all races, creeds, religions and poltical persuasions, have given our time, efforts and minds to the protection of the American people. The current President and Attorney General seem to think we are the enemies of the American people. We are not enemies of the American people—and so we refuse to serve under an administration that seeks to prosecute us. Let Mr. Obama and Mr. Holder find others to do our jobs. When an administration that cares about fighting terror truly comes back to D.C., we’ll re-apply for work. Good night and good luck, America.”

We need a wise Latina as the Director of Central Intelligence. She’ll clean up that cesspool of rogue spies, given the rich experiences of her life.

One of the ‘Rats leaving a sinking ship.

I think Panetta resigning means that the Obama and the Democrats in Congress are going to war with the CIA and Panetta doesn’t want to get caught in the middle. Panetta knows that no one is going to win this fight.

Why on Earth would a CIA operative or employee want to do his job under these conditions? the choice seems to be either defend the country and face prosecution (and/or persecution), or be ineffectual and take the blame for the next attack.

I am beyond concerned. Some events in this country are beginning to remind me of the situation in Chile with Allende. No one wants a repeat of that trajectory!

If true, this will be a SEVERE blow to the Obama admin.

"Moderate/Independent" voters will not be able to accept any BS story from the admin about why a "well-respected" Clintonite quit...over a National Security issue.

Only the FAR FAR left will be on the Obama train at that point. And, if the conjecture of some in the media is correct...and Hillary resigns at some point before 2010, that will seal their fate.

A question no one is asking. More than just Panetta, if the big O continues to sink in the polls, being the political animal she is, what course will Hillary take to preserve her aspirations to make her mark in history?

Feigned family or medical reasons to justify a resignation seem the only palatable ways open.

I don’t think he wants to be around when the teleprompter blows up.

Not that the CIA would do something like that....

Folks, folks, folks.

Never forget that there’s a blood fued between the Clintons and the Kennedys as to who actually owns the Democrat Party. After Dukakis (MA) bombed in 1988, the Kennedys ran Paul Tsongas (MA) in 1992 and Clinton beat him - and by extension - the Kennedys so the Clintons and Kennedys have had this little fued since then for who gets to run the show. In the 1990s, the Clintons had their way and in the 2000s, the Kennedys regrouped. They got Howard Dean (VT) to lead the DNC after McAuliffe (Clinton) ran it into the ground.

Don’t forget, Obama looked like a longshot to get the nomination until Ted Kennedy broke ranks and endorsed him with a lot of the Kennedy wing joining him. They pulled the rug out from under Hillary’s coronation and I guarantee you, behind closed doors, the Clintons have never forgotten it.

I think Hillary, Panetta and others took jobs in the Obama cabinet so they wouldn’t get left on the outside during strategy sessions and, when the time was right, they would use their little tricks to undermine Obama.

Expect some leaked memos to come out from Clintonistas, particularly in the areas of foreign policy and counter-terrorism.

Hillary is not returning to the Senate but, if she sees the opportunity, she’s going to re-emerge in 2012 to stage a primary fight against Obama, claiming he’s too weak and inexperienced for the job while contrasting Bill’s economy to Obama’s.

What Ted’s death has done is upset the power structure of the Kennedy wing of the party. If the Clintonistas see their chance to charge in and take back control of the party, they will. And I hope it happens. If America’s lucky, 2012 can be a repeat of 1980 when Kennedy tried to undermine Carter which helped to give us Reagan.

And covert personnel must be starting to vanish.

I still think Lindh pointed out the agents in Afghanistan that were killed.

Maybe 0bama will replace him with one of his union goon friends. They can turn it into an agency that spies on conservatives and call it the AFL-CIA.

Not only has that job had its share of turnover - take a look at the CIA executive staff positions. During the Clinton administration they were rotating people in and out about every 12-13 months to pay back political favors (resume enhancement). It seems that with that kind of turnover there is a big opportunity for people to still be on the upslope of the learning curve as they depart. Not a good idea for such a critical mission.

I hope he is resigning...and I hope he gives as his reason the fact that Obama and his lacky Holder are evil pipsqueaks who care not a whit for the safety and the security of the nation and are willing to damage those agencies who are on the front lines of ensuring our safety and security. He should end the speech with these memorable lines (or lines like them): “If the members of the House of Representatives had any integrity, they would impeach both Attorney General Holder and President Obama. But I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for integrity to show itself in the 110th Congress. Goodbye and God Bless America!”
