Cardinal Mahony Calls Kennedy A Champion Of The Powerless

Cardinal Mahony calls Kennedy a champion of the powerless August 26, 2009

Cardinal Roger Mahony issued a statement today calling the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) a champion of "the voiceless, the powerless and the most needy of our citizens."

Mahony recalled how the two worked together after the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act was introduced in 2007.

Kennedy "was keenly aware of the plight of immigrant peoples in our nation and was an advocate for their rights and their full inclusion into the culture and economy of our country."

Mahony was one of several prominent California figures to issue statements about the death of Kennedy on Tuesday night.

"Even though he lived in the far northeast corner of our country, he had a deep and personal sense of the needs of the poorest across the land," Mahony said. "He never tired in speaking up for them and their rights and needs."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement Tuesday night that said he and his wife were "saddened by the passing of Uncle Teddy."

Mahony said in his statement: "He was known to the world as the Lion of the Senate, a champion of social justice, and a political icon. Teddy taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life and his legacy will live on."

I mean, the Baloney’s palaver about the powerless... not yours.

The building does appear to be glaringly sans steeple. Most evangelical churches look more reverent than that.

As a Roman Catholic, I must reluctantly agree.

The Pope’s private, closed-door admonitions of the in-your-face sins of “catholic” public figures is most definitely NOT getting the job done.

He might be making some headway in the salvation of their individual souls (doubtful), but the heir to St. Peter is ALSO, directly from the gospels, supposed to shepherd his and (His) flock. That requires public action and example.

With all due respect,Cardinal, the senior Senator from Chappaquiddick wasn't a champion of *all* the powerless.

The priest and the beast conspired against the US citizens with their Comprehensive Immigration Reform...aka amnesty.

I pray Mahony and Kennedy will meet again in the here after.

Hi—I am old school with a preference for a written note—but I did find an e-mail address, but it doesn’t seem to be the private one of Mahoney—
anyhow,

info@la-archdiocese.org

is what I found amid all the website stuff. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. Will e-mail this thread to him. And of course, the old fashioned letter will do as well.

Kennedy voting against a ban on partial-birth abortion.

Kennedy earned a 100% NARAL Pro-Choice America rating. In contrast, Kennedy was rated as voting 0% of the time on pro-life issues.

Enough said on the most defining issue of our era.

“Everytime I hear of a Kennedy, Pelosi, or Giuliani receiving communion, I want to vomit, even though I am no longer Catholic.”

As a fellow ‘no longer Catholic’ may I join you? I vividly recall my firsthand experiences with “the amount in your checkbook equals your value to ‘Mother the Church’. I assume there will be a huge mass with a plethora of priests, Bishops, and Cardinals to send ‘Good Teddy’ to his (we hope) just reward.

“Well, Mahony may not be fat, but he’s a comfy rich b**tard ...”

You are right, perhaps more than you realize.

An acquaintance of mine was one of the first to bring the huge lawsuit regarding molestation. The behind-the-scenes, confidential information that had to be provided to the plaintiffs, about the wealth Mahony controls is positively staggering.

I was shocked, to tell you the truth, as I knew the Church was wealthy but never did I think it was to the extent that it is. Further, the amount of true luxury items (such as a fleet of helicopters, etc) was a surprise to me.

“The hell is wrong with this cardinal? How the heck did he get that position anyhow?”

A very dear life-long friend who was a nun for years (back when it meant something) told me this many years ago:

“You think that a Bishop becomes a Bishop because he is holy, don’t you?”
“Well, yes.”
“That’s not how it works. He becomes a Bishop because he has demonstrated that he is the best at raising money”.

Many cardinals are just politicans, and as the saying goes “Birds of the feather flock together”.
