Cardinal Mahony Calls Kennedy A Champion Of The Powerless

Cardinal Mahony calls Kennedy a champion of the powerless August 26, 2009

Cardinal Roger Mahony issued a statement today calling the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) a champion of "the voiceless, the powerless and the most needy of our citizens."

Mahony recalled how the two worked together after the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act was introduced in 2007.

Kennedy "was keenly aware of the plight of immigrant peoples in our nation and was an advocate for their rights and their full inclusion into the culture and economy of our country."

Mahony was one of several prominent California figures to issue statements about the death of Kennedy on Tuesday night.

"Even though he lived in the far northeast corner of our country, he had a deep and personal sense of the needs of the poorest across the land," Mahony said. "He never tired in speaking up for them and their rights and needs."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement Tuesday night that said he and his wife were "saddened by the passing of Uncle Teddy."

Mahony said in his statement: "He was known to the world as the Lion of the Senate, a champion of social justice, and a political icon. Teddy taught us all that public service isn't a hobby or even an occupation, but a way of life and his legacy will live on."

What could be more powerless than the baby in the womb?

Kennedy’s explanation about Mary Jo & the accident, worth revisiting!

How can Ted be a champion of the powerless if he has never worked a day in his life and never interacted with regular people?

It is an interesting, and peculiar, fact that all the revolutionaries --- from Proudon and Marx, Lenin and Pol Pot, and our own Leftists and like Soros and Buffett --- were always well to do. They always want to liberate us from something they have never experienced.

I say you start a raffle for the honor to press the plunger that starts its implosion. That would raise millions for a new structure.

Great post and even better responses—may I suggest we take some of these strong points and write “his Excellency” a letter to express the ideas shared on FR. He needs to hear some of the opinions and concerns. He may not care, but even one letter may touch his heart. I gotta believe that!

Funny, a quick google search indicates the cardinal didn’t say a word when Ronald Reagan passed away.

He openly advocated the killing of the unborn.

Touche... you'd think Baloney would know better. If he doesn't want to play by the team's rules, he shouldn't sport the team's logo.

Good thing he didn’t write any eulogies for King Herod.
Pay no attention to all those infants bloodying the streets of Bethlehem...

What does a cardinal in California have to say about a politician from Massachusetts serving in D.C. anyhow? That isn’t his district is it?

When was the last time we saw the pope, any pope, kick anybody out of the pulpit? I think they have a credibility crisis.

This palaver about the powerless is reflexive Rat-talk. I thought the kingdom of God wasn’t about political power plays anyhow. In the Rat New Testament, Jesus would have been shown as waxing indignant that the widow who tossed two mites into the collection plate wasn’t a mover and shaker who could throw in 200 influence-gained talents instead.

Yep, that’s a category that the Baloney and the Chap have quite overlooked.
