On Tuesday, FNC's The O'Reilly Factor hosted FNC analyst Bernard Goldberg as the former CBS News correspondent highlighted a story recently posted on his Web site, BernardGoldberg.com, in which he complains of how little mainstream media attention was given to the fact that former President George W. Bush had volunteered to go to Vietnam as part of his service in the Texas Air National Guard, but that he was turned down because other pilots were more experienced, and that CBS News producer Mary Mapes, even though she knew this part of the story before the report aired, did not include this important angle in the infamous piece by Dan Rather that used forged documents to paint Bush as trying to avoid Vietnam War service.
On his Web site, BernardGoldberg.com, Goldberg chastizes Mapes:
However the complexities and seeming contradictions are interpreted, if Bush at any point had volunteered to fly combat missions in Vietnam as the CBS investigation unequivocally states how then could he have been a slacker? The clear answer is that he could not unless, of course, he volunteered to go to Vietnam knowing full well he wouldnt be taken. But if that was the case, Mapes would have had an obligation to report both that he volunteered and then produce a credible witness to say it was a sham. She did neither.
Mapes, a well-known liberal at CBS News, has always contended that she had no agenda, that she was not out to get President Bush. But if she knew that George Bush had volunteered for service in Vietnam as the CBS outside panel clearly concludes she obviously had an obligation to share that with her viewers.
Does this Mapes broad have any journalistic credibility at all anymore? Note to the network - just fire her, before we have to start using decimals in front of your ratings.
Mary, you ignorant slut.
O’Reilly looked like he had gas when discussing this. He obviously swallowed the leftist koolaid that Bush was a silver spoon draft dodger. He was interested in pursuing why Bush first said he did not volunteer TO GO (AS AN INFANTRYMAN) and then did volunteer to go (AS A FIGHTER PILOT)
I can tell you from experience, if joining the Air Force in the 1960’s and early 1970’s made you a “draft dodger” then we have a LOT of us!
If I saw this pig and she was on fire, I wouldn’t piss on her.
Do you think Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews or anyone at CBS,NBC,ABC,MSNBC or CNN will REPORT this fact that they were campaigning for the political party of their ideals for quite some time now?
This is disgusting journalism. This downplays America. Dan Rather needs to speak up on what and when he knew.
Mapes has always been a far left activist who used the media to push her twisted agenda. She was fired in Seattle for doing just that before she found her was to Dan Rather’s inner circle. Maybe it was Rather’s previously aired false story of Vietnam atrocities that drew her to him.
I would.
But I'd swallow a gallon of gas first, and then wait 20 minutes.
That's the way I saw it, too. I don't watch Bill very often these days, but tuned in last night to watch the Dennis Miller segment, and saw this segment as well. Bill had me gagging...
HAHAHAHAHAH - You become a natural flame thrower.
U nasty!
"Allegations that Mary Mapes and I are hiding sources related to the fals...true documents showing President Bush missed a doctor's appointment have been traced to a secret right-wing group led by a mysterious, but diabolical mastermind named Jim Thompson."
Sadly that could be an accurate report of nowadays if Rather were still on-air.
W volunteered for service in VN not once, but twice, as I recall the material that emerged in the wake of the Dan Rather bogus letter episode. He was turned down because the aircraft he had trained in, the F-102 Delta Dagger (a tricky plane to fly, or so I’ve been told), had been phased out of VN service, the air war was winding down, and the USAF already had plenty of suitably qualified pilots coming out of their newly accelerated training program.
More people will continue to turn to alternate media and the MSM numbers will continue to plunge.
Very nice!
It has been downhill since Dan left. The MSM don’t report the truth they report their personal ideals.
