Normally, on Sundays, I always try to watch Chris Wallaces Fox News Sunday broadcast mainly because I think hes the best when it comes to being the ideal sort of journalist for this role, which is to be studiously impartial and tough on both sides of the debate. Because of Wallace, Im willing to attempt to harness my increasingly fragmented attention span for longer than 27 seconds, and this time I was glad I did.
Major Tammy Duckworth, a decorated Army aviator -- and true war hero -- who lost both legs and the use of her right arm when her Blackhawk helicopter was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade during operations in Iraq back in November of 2004, was on hand to provide the VA's response to the controversy surrounding "Your Life, Your Choices," the title of the 'death book.'
... What became clear -- after the Fox host displayed VA screen captures, cache data from the VA's website and even a disclaimer that wasn't added to the book until AFTER Towey's op-ed in the Journal was published -- was that Duckworth had been sent out there with insufficient data and not nearly enough resources to make a stand up fight in convincing concerned veterans that the book wasn't what its critics proclaim it to be.
Tammy Duckworth -- grievously wounded in Iraq and with a truly compelling life story (unlike a recent Supreme Court Justice who shall remain nameless here) -- perhaps out of a misplaced sense of loyalty to the organization which she so proudly serves, appears to have been propped up to take the brunt of the incoming fire in place of more than a few folks in the VA and over at the White House in this matter

Wallace really picked apart her story on the booklet. The thing I like about him is that he always remains respectful and also allows the person to give a chance to respond.
It’s hard to watch somebody as honorable as her try to defend the indefensible with obvious falsehoods. She’s better than that I’m 100% sure.
By the way, I haven't checked it out myself. But, someone said that it's not up on the VA website now.
I’m not so sure she was that honorable in this instance. She REALLY looked like she was lying. I don’t think she was a human shield so much as a willing participant in this.
Bet she steps down.
The point was to put her out there thinking no one would question her credentials. I’m sorry, if she (which I’m sure she does) love the Vets, she of all people should be demanding the Pres order this removed from the VA system. Either that or resign in protest.
You very well, could be right. And it’s ashame, if that’s true.

I felt bad for her. That woman’s a damn war hero and obviously loves her country very much. What a shame.

I think she tried to wing it and didn’t try to understand the battlespace into which she was flying. Wallace was respectful as he could be, but you could see he was becoming exasperated with her. She tried to fall back to a defensive position about the VA’s good works, but by that time her defense of the indefensible had caught up with her.
They’ve probably got her so stoked on so many anti-depressants and such that she’s just a robot now and will say whatever she’s told to say or the drug supply will be withheld.
If the Insurance Industry was really fighting this the spend would have been 40x.
Yes, they like it because it will help big insurance and since they don’t have to compete on the content of their insurance plans the competition is going to weak.
She has a great position, and knows which side of the bread is buttered. But I wonder if she’ll listen to her conscience and resign the post and fight against the admin that sent her out there to defend their corruption?
She did far worse than just talk about the VA’s good works. She kept referring to the previous guest as merely wanting to sell books. Over and over. Shame on her.
How in the hell did she a “darn good job”?
She lied like a one acre rug, over and over and over.
This article tries to give her some slack as well, as I’m sure you are MSL. I understand she’s a veteran, a wounded one. I thank her and God for her service but a liar is a liar is a liar.
The original article said that she obviously was not informed about the book being reinstated after being pulled by Bush. Well she did deny it about eleven trillion times until finally Wallace shoved the proof in her face.
She also could have been lying and again I thank her for her service but those with missing legs can lie. In fact I daresay the OBamers probably thought we’d be too timid to attack a veteran with missing legs.
They can lie too.
I don’t know what Duckworth knew and when she knew it but the result was a horrible interview where she looked like a liar and go with me here, SOMEBODY was worried enough about this Death Book thing to either set this child up or else she agreed to lie for her political ambitions.
She was so ill-informed and again, the original article tries to protect her ridiculous excuse that the VA reference to this awful, awful book could not be removed say why? Cause we paid for it and HAVE to use it?
That is lame. I understand that she did not have the authority to have the thing pulled and was searching for something, ANY reason, why it couldn’t.
So she lied.
Sorry. The administration knew what they were doing. They were hoping we’d be too timid to question this veteran and her lies.
If she was a dupe of the administration, let her stand up and tell us about it...how about that?
I have no doubt that the booklet would be pulled right away. That little death book has done this administration more harm....let’s hear Obamer say he’s sick of hearing about Death Panels.
If he’s so sick of it, why he go and put just such a thing back on the VA site?
Liars. All of them.
Agreed. I didn’t think she did a “darn good job” either. Chris Wallace just eviscerated her and for darned good reason: she was lying through her teeth. It was painfully obvious. I commend her for her sacrifice but there is no doubt in my mind that she has become a shill for Obama. A lot of people may have forgotten that she ran for Congress a few years back as a Democrat and was defeated.
I thought her body language indicated she was lying, too. Any confusion, I suspect, was because she was actually challenged about it. No one in the Obama admin expects any challenges, even from FNC. Duckworth might be a war hero, but even war heros can have character flaws. Working with the thieves and thugs in this administration exposes a really large character flaw.
IF that is the case, then she might consider disassociating herself from a coterie that wouldn't recognize honor if it bit them in the ass, begged pardon and then bit them again.
Mr. niteowl77
“Liars. All of them.”
You make good points.
