Imagine if the Congress passed a law mandating that all school students in America be indoctrinated in socialism? Yeah, I know that is precisely the type of indoctrination that is already going on in many classrooms but the reaction to such a law actually spelling this out would cause demonstrations that would dwarf even those currently going on at the tea parties in opposition to ObamaCare. Well, this is precisely what is currently happening in Venezuela where the Hugo Chavez controlled National Assembly recently passed just such a law.
As a result, many previously apathetic Venezuelans are pouring into the streets to protest against this proposed indoctrination of their children. Now its personal.
Unfortunately most of the MSM in this country are paying little attention even though the size of the demonstration yesterday, in which tear gas was used, is enormous as you can see in this video (note: the commentary reflects Chavista propaganda but the visuals give you an idea of the size):
Here is a brief description of yesterdays massive demostration in downtown Caracas by Rachel Jones of the Associated Press:

That is what I expected. Virtually silence from the US media. The left there use tactics very similar to what the left here uses.
See how Venezuelans and Iranians take to the streets against their abusive governments, yet the MSM claims that some Tea-parties and town hall protests are “angry mobs”.
If only... LOL.
Wow, great to hear Larry’s voice again.
I’m still of the opinion that the Soviets shot down
KAL 007 because Mr. Mcdonald would have been a presidential
candidate perhaps too because getting a sitting
Senator who was so opposed to communism would have
been in their interest.
We will never know.
Thanks. Yes, brings back a flood of memories for me.
This was never OFFICIALLY confirmed but scuttlebut had it that in addition to Larry McDonald, the most outspoken foe the comnmies had in the West, there were 40 SOKO intelligence agents returning from CIA training here on that flight.
Talk about a juicy target for Andropov and the criminals in the Kremlin?
Wonder who the criminals in the White House have targeted? We should know soon enough.
Be safe and SEMPER FI!
I had forgotten that there was another senator and a
congresswoman on that plane.
In late August of 1983, Senator Helms was part of a congressional delegation bound for South Korea to observe that countrys 30th anniversary of the United States-South Korea Mutual Defense Treaty, along with Senator Steve Symms of Idaho, Representative Carroll Hubbard, Jr. of Kentucky, and Representative Larry McDonald of Georgia. Helms, who changed his flight plans to attend a fundraiser, took a separate flight (KAL 015) from Congressman McDonald (KAL 007), but the two stopped in Anchorage, Alaska, at the same time. Senator Helms invited Congressman McDonald to join him on his plane, but Congressman McDonald declined. KAL Flight 007 was subsequently shot down by Soviet fighters near Sakhalin Island after apparently straying into Soviet airspace.
Correction, now I am getting confused, appearantly
Hubbard and Symms were not on that plane. Did they fly with Jesse?

The information you post is essentially correct. It was the MDT Anniversary ceremony at which Larry and the others were to speak. I had to edit the notes in the video to keep it under 10 mins. I have Director rating at YouTube (whoopee! big deal) and can exceed 10 but like to keep them under if possible to meet America’s ever-shortening attention span.
Thanks for adding “the rest of the story.”
The only part I question is the “straying into Soviet airspace.” The pilot that night was one of KAL’s very best veterans. There was speculation that someone had tampered with or switched the cassette used to drive the autopilot (this was in the early days of computer autopilot interface devices)in Anchorage and they were INTENTIONALLY drawn off the normal route to allow Andropov to claim a legitimate violation of Soviet territory. We’ll never know for sure.
The bottom line for me is that all those folks were needlessly murdered. I can almost guarantee you that the ruskies KNEW which plane Larry was on that night.
