Sen. Arlen Specter on Sunday called for hearings to scrutinize a guide for veterans' end-of-life care which one former Bush official says sends a "hurry-up-and-die" message to injured troops.
The guide, called "Your Life, Your Choices," was suspended under the Bush administration but has been revived under the current Department of Veterans Affairs.
Jim Towey, former director of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, told "FOX News Sunday" that the pamphlet makes injured veterans feel like a burden, encourages the severely injured to die and should be tossed out.
Asked about the document, Specter, a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, said it raises "a lot of questions" and that he would call for hearings immediately.
"I think consideration ought to be given right now to suspending it pending hearings," Specter, D-Pa., told "FOX News Sunday."

Obama’s pogram?
Why, if this were a guide book for Senators, it would
be fine with me. Send Teddy the first copy.
Specter needs something to make him relevant
I’ll agree with the program if it helps Specter decide that he has served enough time on this earth.
If it were really .... “Your Life, Your Choices,” .....
then Specter would step back!
What I would suggest for Specter and Kennedy and Dodd, is to practice what they preach ..... as an example, of course.
Frankly the way Specter acted for the TV, at his meeting?, left me wondering about his ability to govern.
I don’t think you got my comment.
was the current director appointed by chairman zero??
It’s a pogram for the masses, try it out on the vets first.
“Spincter” should go back to trying to get hearings on the New England Patriots cheating scandal.
It would cause much less harm for the senate than screwing up the health care system
Reminiscent of the hearings Specter called to bury “Able Danger”.
My daughter called me in anguish that her father a vet was told to go home and die. She and her sister took over the situation and had his status upgraded to do what ever to keep him alive. He has lived 6 months past his prognosis. He is doing so much better living with my daughter he has resumed being able to take himself to the VA.
Excuse while I yawn...
*grin*
Specter just might be self-serving when he says he’s against the Death document for Vets.
