Hoping to find saving grace with the religious left, President Barack Obama began a public relations blitz Thursday in which he hope to wrap universal health care in the shroud of morality.
We are God's partners in matters of life and death, Mr. Obama reportedly said in a conference call with Rabbi Jack Moline and other clerics. The conference was part of an effort to enlist left leaning clergy in the failing battle for Obamacare.
While many aspects of Obamacare have unnerved an anxious public, recently conservatives have criticized the health care plan for permitting tax-payer funded abortions. It is charged such a policy contradicts Mr. Obamas pledge to find common ground in the abortion debate.
Recognizing the charge could further impede passage of Obamacare, the president claimed the allegation was a fabrication and it was untrue his health care bill provided for government funding of abortions.
You've heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion. Not true, Mr. Obama reportedly said during the conference call.
These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation - and that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother's keeper and I am my sister's keeper.
Conservatives quickly responded by saying the president was playing fast and loose with the facts.
Emboldened by the recently demonstrated superficiality of some organs of the news media, President Obama today brazenly misrepresented the abortion-related component of the health care legislation that his congressional allies and staff have crafted, said Douglass Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee.
As amended by the House Energy and Commerce Committee on July 30 (the Capps-
Waxman Amendment), the bill backed by the White House (H.R. 3200) explicitly authorizes the government plan to cover all elective abortions. Obama apparently seeks to hide behind a technical distinction between tax funds and government-collected premiums.
In recent years public support for abortion on demand has decreased and some say Mr. Obama is trying to prevent his embattled health care bill from being further consumed by an abortion controversy.
Public support for abortion is on decline, and the President knows that openly advancing an abortion mandate in health care reform is unpopular with the American people, said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Obamas statements conflict with the proposed legislation. Americans demand an explicit exclusion of abortion coverage, not more obfuscation and confusion from the President and his allies.
The decision to enlist the religious-left could be a dangerous move and the sign of a desperate president; a president grabbing at any straw to go onto the offensive on the health care debate. By calling for the assistance of clergy, Mr. Obama ignited, rather than extinguished, the abortion flames and now the religious left will have to defend a policy that would fund the termination of human life.
President Obama was hoping to be on offense during the month of August to travel the country and put on the hard sell for government-run health care. Instead, President Obama is frantically struggling to shore up his base; said Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele.
The religious left talks about their desire for social justice. No bill that funds abortion or strips health care services away from seniors and low-income Americans can or should be considered just, and that is precisely what the presidents plan does.
This bozo and his congressional allies are bound and determine to complete the job of ruining our economy and our lives and shoving us into communism.
Religious Left.
Praise Gaia!
“Religious Left”
There is no such thing.
I once heard Rev. Jerry Falwell refer to them as “the irreligious wrong”
Religious Left
See, your quotation mark is misplaced. It should be “Religious” Left ;)
To see what they are up to follow any of the ECLA threads that were posted this week.
If there is such a constituiency within the Democrat Party, it must be quite small. LOL.
But according to Liberals, only conservatives and republicans belong to the ‘religious nuts’ group.
Ovummer, our first non religious pro abortion president is hypocritical to say the least by trying to lure religious leaders to come out in favor of his health plan - like free unfettered abortions...
Speaking of the religious left, has anyone seen if BHO’s buddy Rick Warren has said anything about DeathCare?
Nurse Who Exposed Infanticide-Based Abortions: Obama Lied During Debate
October 2008 article
Question: Why is this non-president trying so hard to cram a wasteful, needless program down our throats when the people are saying NO WE DON'T WANT IT!!! Why is Obama so determined....Unions? Barny Frank, Schumer, Rahm Emanuel, Ezekiel Emanuel, ACORN and the Obama Special Interest groups...is that the reason Why this South Side Chicago Community Organizer wants the hoi polloi to carry the load for all federal employees, illegal aliens, and those who just plain don't want Medical Insurance? What is going on here?
The left absolutely has ‘religion’, they are ‘gods’ and they won.
Two points:
1 - What happened to the previously-stated conclusion that such matters are "above my pay grade"?
and
2 - Is he announcing that the ACLU and Far Left have abandoned their so-called "separation of church and state" position?
Good question! What ever happened to the separation of God from country clause? Hypocrites!!
Guess I failed to mark my previous post as “sarcasm.”
