MCCAIN: Yes, we said that we thought it would be a grave mistake to give this individual a heros welcome. And I think most Americans condemn this decision of the Scottish judiciary to let him loose.
I would point out that Colonel Gadhafi and his regime, which is very dictatorial and totalitarian in every way and very cruel, did reverse their position on weapons of mass destruction. Now, theres still further steps that need to be taken, but hes basically agreed to dismantle his nuclear efforts. If Ahmadinejad did that tomorrow, Id be glad to sit down and talk with Ahmadinejad. So he has at least reversed the path that they were on, which was that they were going to acquire nuclear weapons.

MCCAIN: I think the threat is serious here. Weve seen increased temperatures, which has had impact on the wildlife, on the flora and fauna, on the Colorado River itself, which we are seeing less and less of.
We are in serious drought conditions. Our parks have very fragile ecology here. And, frankly, when youre in this driest area anyway, then theyre even more fragile.
So I think that part of the impact of climate change on our national parks is -- well, you know, theyre going to have to change the name of Glacier National Park because the glaciers are going away.
STEPHANOPOULOS: In the past, youve been supportive of legislation to deal with greenhouse gas emissions, with cap-and-trade. What about the current legislation thats coming out of the House now, moving to the Senate?
Theyve met a lot of your objections about not giving away the allowances. Is this something that you can support?
MCCAIN: Well, to support a 1,400-page piece of legislation to start with is always difficult for me, but I believe that the only way were going to truly reduce greenhouse gas emissions effectively is the nuclear power.
We have got to build 100 nuclear power plants in the next 20 years. We can do that. Right now, the administrations position is against storage and theyre against recycling of spent nuclear fuel. I cant support a genuine reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, unless nuclear power is a key part of it.
STEPHANOPOULOS: But youve been for it in past.
MCCAIN: Ive been for -- and nuclear power -- assuming that nuclear power would be a key part of it. I mean, you cant get there from here. The only country thats really making its Kyoto goals is France, where 80 percent of their electricity is generated by nuclear power.
STEPHANOPOULOS: But youd be willing to go along with cap-and- trade, if it were part of a comprehensive deal that included more...
(CROSSTALK)
MCCAIN: Well, that would have to be part of it. And second of all, in any 1,400-page piece of legislation, you put in a lot of special deals for a lot of special interests. We know what happened there. The bazaar was open in the House of Representatives, so obviously, I would have to want to do away with a whole lot of that.
But I think climate change is real, and I would be glad to sit down and try to work, as I have in the past, across the aisle on this issue.

McFail strikes again.
Heads up.
We may be better off having a stumbling Obama in the White House, then a sellout.
Or we could have craven liberal Mr. Conservative RINO, Mitt.
Or Shuck-a-bee double wide pray to Jesus.
Or Palin.
I'm all over Palin.
Crappy pilot, crappy senator. Hot wife though!

I agree with that
Not bad for a junkie thief.
They should have kept him in the Hanoi Hilton.
Don't see the controversy in this statement. If Iran gave up it's centrifuges and agreed to unlimited and unrestricted inspections of the nuclear installations by the IAEA - in other words, a Libyan-like dismantling of it's WMD programs, why wouldn't we talk to Ahmadinejad?
The Soviets had 40K warheads pointed in our direction, but Reagan talked to them everyday of his administration. If we're going to continue ignoring some specific countries irrespective of their actions, just because of some "bad blood", what's their motivation for changing their behavior.
McCain's right on this one.
No wonder Republicans lost the election. Even with the most radical candidate ever trumpeted out by the left, they still couldn’t win. Stop electing neo-statists like McCain and we can reclaim our country.
McCain=death by 1000 papercuts.
My daddy owns a Budweiser distributorship! Me love you long
long time.You number 1!
We were sooooo scr*wed the last election. Our choices were Obama, and Obama-Lite.
So in other words, he’d be identical to Barack Hussein Obama as President.
Sounds good, but the reality is we're sitting on HUGE amounts of cheap energy resources. Nuclear is expensive. And as long as our energy prices go up we'll never be able to compete with nations that have low energy costs.
Besides, going nuclear won't lower greenhouse emissions. It will only send more business overseas, where our coal will be used to enrich foreign nations AND put more greenhouse gasses into the environment.
Global warming is a scam, and McCain is all for pushing the scam on us and destroying our economy.
DC Beltway fever is worse than the swine flu. The only effective immunization is term limits.
See, the flaw in your logic is the word IF. Remind me, I forget, just how many times has Iran let the world into inspect their nukes? None? Oh, yeah, that's right. They are like Iraq used to be, promise to let inspectors in then run them around showing them anything but your nuke facilities. These are muslims that feel honor bound to lie to non muslims and consider it their duty to do so.
McCain may be right in theory but he is wrong where the rubber meets the road. Iran has not dismantled anything, they are still working on a bomb, they want a bomb, they want to destroy Israel with the bomb they are working towards having.
Libya only gave up their Nukes when they saw what we did to Iraq, and not before. Iran knows we won't bomb them and they are counting on us keeping Israel(they are wrong there, IMO)from bombing them. This will give them time to make the bomb. McCain is once again talking out of his a**.
