Staffers for the federal agency are fanning out across the country to conduct training seminars on the regulations at dozens of thrift shops.

Good grief! I wonder how much this is going to cost! This administration is insane.

HOLY COW!! How on earth does the federal government reach jurisdiction on a garage sale? How does that reach “interstate commerce?”

If you want to stimulate the economy you need to take the second-hand stuff out of the marketplace so as to create demand for newly-manufactured stuff. Of course, the new stuff is manufactured in China, so no help for the economy there, but at least it has to be transported long distances, generating work for truck drivers, and it gets sold in stores, generating work for clerks etc. So think of the yard sale police as economic stimulation generators.

The ban also includes older books that may have “small amounts of lead” in the printing ink.

Lead has been out of American products, especially toys, for decades. This is a knee jerk reaction because of IMPORTED CHINESE JUNK CONTAMINATED. Little in the legislation addressed the import problem.

And the “Food Safety Act” of 2009 has the same knee jerk reactions that will again penalize American farmers, ranchers, and farm markets, because of tainted, imported food.

As much as I hate to say it, George Bush signed this into law. I found this in a story that was posted the other day:

“The Resale Roundup is being enforced under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law last year.”

As much as I liked George Bush, I would of liked him much better if he used his VETO pen more.

An agency of the federal government in Washington is actually going to reach all the way down to your neighborhood and make sure that you're following their interpretation of the law.

Then why is this jobsworth using war terms?

who in their right mind is going to sell at their garage sale, a toy that is known to be dangerous (bad chinese paint or something) to another child.... from a parent to another parent. Come on, really. I highly doubt that a govt beaurocracy could possilby fan out to every garage and yard sale in America searching for “unapproved” toys.

In the old America, we’d stop importing and start producing good quality goods here as we once did.

In the new Amerika, we fine those who have to choose from what is provided to us - from China.

What a country!

Think the "totalitarian government" in Beijing bothers paying any attention to the toys sold at Chinese garage sales?

The USA is a lot further down the slope to tyranny than most Americans are willing to believe.

Bullets contain lead. Lead is hazardous. Any gun that has ever fired a lead bullet is contaminated. Turn them in or have them confiscated.

Thank you.

The Government
