The political director for the Republican Party of New Mexico quit his post this week after only two months on the job, but not before taking some parting shots at his former employers.
Sergio Garcia wrote in his resignation letter, turned in Tuesday night, that "destructive forces" within the state GOP had undermined his credibility and stifled his opinions.
"I have come to the realization that the current environment is no longer conducive for moving forward with any strategic plan of positioning the party for the future. I can no longer justify earning a paycheck from our donors for leading a party that in truth will always be a two man and at times three-man show," Garcia wrote.
State GOP spokeswoman Janel Causey said the resignation "came out of left field" and that Garcia had not discussed any of the allegations in the letter around the office.

Fed up with trying to put up with McAmnesty? I don’t know the state that well, but dealing with Johnny boy would SURELY drive me to drink!
PING to the NM list!
Politically as well as unexpectedly? I didn't want to sign up so I oouldn't read the rest of it, but he sounds kind of like a whining RINO.
McCain is from neighboring Arizona. Richardson and the corrupt Democrats rule NM. The GOP needs a state wide leader to combat them. Instead they spend all their time infighting.
You don’t need to sign up. Scroll down the page, watch a short video then go to the story.
Sounds like a conservative Hispanic who just didn’t like doing the nuts & bolts of fundraising and the rest of it, without real command of the party. Maybe he didn’t have the patience to stick it out until things got better for him.
Sergio Garcia, who quit his job as deputy executive director of the state Republican Party earlier this week, says his abrupt resignation came largely because of widely differing views about where the GOP should be headed.
In an interview, he said he was frustrated with ideologues running the party.
I am not an ideologue. I never wanted to be one. I have always been one who thought its about winning elections, Garcia said.
Garcia also cited as a frustration a lack of understanding among party leaders about how to reach Hispanics, which he said is critical to making the GOP relevant in New Mexico.
What bothers me is that most of our party leadership at a state level does not understand what Hispanic outreach means... It does not mean pandering to Hispanics. It does not mean trying to buy their votes, He said. Its about messaging to Hispanics. Its about trying to bring Hispanics home because this is where Hispanics started, in the Republican Party.
They didnt get it, he said, adding that the resulting disconnect created a climate of suspicion about him.
Garcia resigned abruptly earlier this week in a strongly worded letter to Party Chairman Harvey Yates.
In the last three months, I have seen the destructive forces that have plagued the Republican Party of New Mexico for years. In particular, I heard the use of fallacious arguments regarding trust, confidence and loyalty used upon me as if I were unable to understand these concepts, he wrote.
The Republican Party of New Mexico supposedly hired me as a symbol of a new day for a Party that has been plagued with deep divisions that led to historic political loses on 2008, he wrote. I was looking forward to re-building a stronger, broader Party but due to unforeseen circumstances, this will not be the case.
GOP spokeswoman: Garcia didnt voice concerns
In an e-mail, state GOP spokeswoman Janel Causey said, Unfortunately, the position didnt work out a fact realized (Tuesday) night when the current executive director happened to stop by the party office --only to find Sergio with a packed U-haul dropping off keys and a letter of resignation.
We regret that Sergio did not feel comfortable expressing his concerns to the chairman directly before leaving so abruptly. We wish him the best in his future endeavors, she said.
An interesting comment on Garcias proposed Hispanic Outreach Proposal shows an eerie similarity to an EPA doc. on Hispanic Outreach:
From the EPA: http://www.epa.gov/ohr/hispanicoutreach/strategy.html
To engage Hispanics in the environmental stewardship of natural resources through education
To provide information on environmental education to Hispanic communities throughout the nation
To foster closer working relationships with Hispanic Serving Institutions and to improve assistance wherever possible
To promote EPAs mission to Hispanic Serving Institutions and strengthen EPAs presence on campuses across the nation
Garcias Proposal for Hispanic Outreach (from file cited in article):http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:tA6NOiG1CtsJ:haussamen.blogspot.com/+garcia+hispanic+outreach+proposal&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a
To engage Hispanics in the political stewardship of New Mexican problems and solutions through education
To provide information on education to Hispanic communities throughout the state
To foster closer working relationships with Hispanic Serving Institutions and to improve technical assistance wherever possible
To promote RPNMs mission to Hispanic Serving Institutions and strengthen RPNMs presence on campuses across the state
Looks to me as if Senor Garcia “borrowed” at least part of his proposal from the EPA & forgot to return it.
Yep! The first sentence is the tip-off.....the guy is just a normal, loveable, gentle, caring, indecisive, whimpering, gutless, POS RINO.
"Ideologue" is RINO code for Conservatives who believe in the former Constitution and individual freedom.
I suggest you’re all missing the point.
What IS the Republican Party’s message? Why isn’t the Republican party basing its platform on Constitutional principles and stressing the importance of law and order - something VERY important to Hispanic communities? Getting out a positive, non-pandering message to people is important. This resigned GOP Director mentioned possible ways to get the message out to Hispanic communities but the Party itself must have a message to broadcast.
All of us know the Democratic Party panders to Hispanics, treating them as a monolithic political group that can be manipulated by far-left Hispanic interest groups. Well, “Hispanics” are no more monolithic (in beliefs or political thinking) than any other ethnic group. Amnesty does not appeal to all of them but most Hispanic communities are under seige by gangs and drug-related criminal activities. Law and order is important to those communities. One solution is to get illegal aliens deported because they’re the root cause of the lawlessness. So, how does the Republican Party go about getting that message put together and sending it to the afflicted communities, and do so without sounding like racists? It must be done on broad principles that benefit all U.S. citizens and especially legal residents.
Republicans need to get their act together first before sniping at someone who tried to get in there and help facilitate a means. Having the means to get your message out to Hispanics is nothing without first having a coherent message of principles to express.
I don’t think we disagree. I’ve always said that the Republicans need to distinguish between legal and illegal hispanics. And they need to appeal to them as good people, not try to outbid the Democrats.
The same story with blacks. Instead of trying to imitate the Democrats, they need to appeal to blacks as Christians and as people who support strong families. What Dick Gregory has been saying.
I don’t know why this guy quit, so I was just guessing. No, he wouldn’t have an easy row to hoe. Maybe he lacked patience, or maybe he was right and the situation was impossible, and he didn’t want to just be their token outreach to Hispanics.
And his words were so beautiful they even had me cheering:
"What bothers me is that most of our party leadership at a state level does not understand what Hispanic outreach means... It does not mean pandering to Hispanics. It does not mean trying to buy their votes. Its about messaging to Hispanics. Its about trying to bring Hispanics home because this is where Hispanics started, in the Republican Party.
Alas, I was hearing what I want to hear: that what he really meant to say was that the party should be about getting the same message across to "Hispancs" as it does to any homo sapien American: that limited government is better for everybody, that we have historically all prospered and gotten along better when government is limited and the design of our beautiful capitalist free-market system inevitably leads to racial harmony out of pure self-interest.
But no. So to Sr. Garcia, I say "Don't let the ol' puerta hit you on the ass on your way out."
I am not an ideologue. I never wanted to be one. I have always been one who thought its about winning elections, Garcia said.”
So he was an unprincipaled hack.
McPain is from Arizona... not to say we don’t have our own special kind of stupid.
Fine, he and David Iglesias can go cry in thier cerveza’s together.
You are right! My mistake. Please forgive me for sticking you with McAmnesty!
