Former Senate majority leader Thomas A. Daschle's visit to the Oval Office on Friday, at the invitation of President Obama, was more than just a meeting between two loyal friends and political allies. It also served as a reminder of what might have been.
As Obama's health-care agenda teeters in Congress, the White House listed the private meeting on the president's public schedule, sending a signal that Obama is still consulting Daschle on his top domestic policy priority. An assiduous student of health policy and an adept creature of the Senate, Daschle was Obama's first pick to oversee his reforms, but a firestorm over Daschle's failure to pay about $146,000 in taxes on time prompted the South Dakota Democrat in February to withdraw his nomination to be secretary of health and human services.

I believe I remember a speech made by Daschle, just prior to his ignominious exit from th Obaba team early this year, that strongly hinted that health care would have to be rationed for the elderly. Does that jog anyone’s memory?
The changes in the tone and volume coming from the other side in the last several days to a week has given me a lot of concern. Daschle wanted to create a “Federal Health Board”. Yikes.
I think Ted Kennedy is a senior. Arlen Spector is a senior. They don’t seem to be just taking their cancer diagnostics and doing nothing like we are supposed to do.
“Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.”
Thanks for that. You jogged my memory. That was some of his rhetoric at that time.
Now Obama, who is denying that seniors will be short changed on health care after a lifetime of paying payroll taxes into medicare and social security, has resurrected this guy.
I guess our elected representatives are just being unselfish. While our they are the one’s that are carrying the terrible burden of having to will vote on the health care bill, they, themselves will not be blessed with the gift of Obama-Care. Their only reward will be that they will not have to be as “accepting of the conditions that come with age” as the rest of us.
Thanks for the link. Very interesting.
