U.S. Border Patrol agents successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a semiautomatic handgun into Mexico, the agency reported Friday.
Agents arrested a Mexican citizen who tried to pass through southbound inspections Thursday at the San Luis port of entry, according to a Border Patrol news statement.
A Browning .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun was concealed in the subject's waistband, according to the statement. The subject was living in the United States as a legally admitted resident alien but did not have the proper documentation to carry a concealed weapon or export a firearm.
Firearms and ammunition are illegal in Mexico.
Since April, the Border Patrol's Yuma Station has seized weapons, firearms parts, ammunition and more than $20,000 during southbound inspections along the Mexico border. Agents have also apprehended 166 illegal aliens, according to the statement.
The Border Patrol explained that by seizing weapons and cash before they can cross the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection ensures that these items will not be used for criminal activity in Mexico.
LOL!
Why is it that we are searching SOUTHBOUND vehicles? Isn’t that the job of the Mexican government? Looks like the Obama administration has found another way to funnel US taxpayer’s money to the Mexicans.
Firearms and ammunition are illegal in Mexico.
How’s that working out?
Wow, I had to check twice. Thought this was a satire piece from reading it.
How's that working out?
Oh my! The horror of it all! How many cops and politicians posed behind this “confiscated arms shipment” in the press conference?
If I was a journalist, I’d be ashamed to call this news. I guess that’s why I’m not a journalist.
“Firearms and ammunition are illegal in Mexico.”
Hmm, their lack of 2nd Amendment protections doesn’t seem to be doing much for Mexican domestic tranquility. I guess we can add Mexico to Great Britain (and its soaring incidence of violent crime, despite a ban on guns and a threatened ban on knives) when the politicians hostile to private citizen weapons ownership rights try to press their case.
Woof.
Isn’t it funny that guns and ammo are illegal in Mexico but they have one of the biggest violent drug businesses in the world. Guns are prevalent in Mexico, I was shocked to hear they were illegal.
LOL. the mexicans should build a monument for this brave man. just imagine what could have happened if this single gun had passed the border :-)
LOL!
A frickin .22 cal plinker seized. INTO Mexico? An "ILLEGAL GUN!"
Will wonders never cease. Did the writer of this piece have a straight face, or are they that stupid.
I can sleep easier tonight.
Firearms are not illegal in Mexico. Highly restricted, but not totally illegal.
They forgot to check out the man carrying the gun.
Why are our Border Patrol agents enforcing Mexico’s laws when they can’t even enforce our own?
They should be spending their time stopping illegals from entering the USA.
Let those illegals traveling back to Mexico use the southbound express lanes - no waiting, no stopping.
Mexico is one of the most corrupt places I have ever visited.
It eclipses some governments in Africa in terms of wanting bribes, and that is saying something.
If you want a firearm in Mexico, you better have some "On the Take" Police in your pocket.
Why is this even a news story? Oh wait, it will be used to perpetuate the fiction that there are massive quantities of US arms going to Mexico. And, after all, if we can’t control our the flow of guns to Mexico, why should the Mexicans be able to control the flow of citizens here? [/sarc]
