Foundation Laid for Needed Immigration Reform
SEIU blog ^ | August 20, 2009 | Joaquin Guerra

Posted on 08/21/2009 8:41:51 PM PDT by machogirl

Today, in a meeting to convene a diverse group of labor, advocacy, faith and business leaders, SEIU Executive Vice President Eliseo Medina met with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to discuss immigration reform.

As an added bonus, President Barack Obama made an unscheduled visit to the meeting and reiterated his support of pushing through a comprehensive immigration package this Congress.

The Hill reports that:

"Obama urged leaders to work together in order to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Advocates took the presidential visit as a sign of the administration's commitment to the issue."

In the first of its kind meeting -- to convene a diverse group of advocates to begin sketching a framework for reform-- Vice President Medina issued the following statement:

"Today's White House meeting with Secretary Napolitano and a diverse group of labor, faith, and business leaders is an important step towards shaping smart, comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the comings months. As the leader of the Department that has for far too long been tasked with the impossible job of enforcing broken, outdated laws, Secretary Napolitano knows first-hand how critical it is that we pass sweeping immigration reforms that are smart, enforceable and strengthen our economy for the long term.

"In coming months as the immigration debate heats up, Secretary Napolitano will play a central role in promoting real progress on the issue. In order to achieve the smart policy solution that the American public wants, we urge Secretary Napolitano to stand up publicly, light the fire and become an outspoken champion of comprehensive reform.

"Enforcement without reform has been tried for decades with dismal results. Instead of solving problems, it wastes taxpayer dollars, marginalizes immigrant communities and degrades the quality of life for all workers. In particular, expansion of employment verification programs like E-Verify is like painting the roof when the house is on fire; it's the wrong solution at the wrong time.

"For every day we delay on passing a solution to our broken immigration system, we impede our nation's economic recovery, create unnecessary divisions in our workforce, and cost taxpayers billions of wasted dollars.

"It is unacceptable to live in a country where millions of workers are living in shadows. The only way to ensure that every job in this country is filled by a legal permanent resident is to get undocumented immigrants out of the underground economy, into the system and under the rule of law. Diverse groups are aligned on the need for a comprehensive solution. Now we need the Administration and Congress to take bold steps, roll up their sleeves and pass smart reforms once and for all.

Shortly after the meeting, Secretary Napolitano issued a statement on the meeting saying:

"Today's meeting on comprehensive immigration reform was an important opportunity to hear from stakeholders and build on the significant time I've spent on the Hill meeting with members of Congress on this critical subject. I look forward to working with President Obama, my colleagues in Congress and representatives from law enforcement, business, labor organizations, the interfaith community, advocacy groups and others as we work on this important issue."

LOL! I still can’t figure out what giving U.S. citizenship to half of Mexico has to do with “Homeland Security.” The ‘RATS sure stuck that stick back in our eye.

I haven't either ... it's frightening.

Obama has to try and ram this down out throats BEFORE 2010. He knows people are catching on to his latest “crisis” that doesn’t exist. People are catching on to his lying. People MUST stay on their toes and FIGHT ALL OF IT. Sorry about the typos - I am past white hot - if that is possible.

Agree. This whole argument involves the violation of the 14th Amendment, the Equal Protection Clause. Can’t enforce laws on a whole population, while exempting illegals.

IIRC, Arizona once had a 1.5 billion dollar “rainy day fund.” Now we’re broke. oy.

It doesn’t. They think that we are all too stupid, too scared, to understand or fight back.

If everyone (i’m talking libs) would just look at the border as a security issue, as in CRIME AND TERRORISM.

If an illegal immigrant can get through our border, so can TERRORISTS WITH SUITCASE NUKES.

We might as well just annex Mexico, make it another state, and use up their oil to pay ourselves back for all the medical, legal, benefits, and schooling costs we have to pay for 1/5 of Mexico.

Arizona sends DES money for CPS kids to Mexico, for “citizens” that have been taken away from their parents and are living with relatives in Mexico.

There is only one acceptable form of comprehensive immigration reform.

SEND THEM ALL HOME!

"For every day we delay on passing a solution to our broken immigration system...

Solution to broken immigration system:

. Enforce existing immigration laws already on the books

. Remove all federal funding to declared sanctuary cities

. Stop all entitlements to people here illegally

. Remove all politicians (forcibly if necessary) who pander to illegal aliens (for votes, to increase political power or to repay activist organizations who demand amnesty for illegals)

. Begin prosecuting anyone and everyone who crosses the border illegally (maintain US sovereignty)

. Let Sheriff Joe Arpaio be appointed czar to "fix" the so-called immigration problem and let no one person or organization hinder the speed and efficiency with which he will resolve the matter.

Amnesty will be shoved down our throats, just like health care “reform”.

How to Destroy a Nation:

1. Open the doors to millions of illegal immigrants.
2. Institute socialized medicine.
3. Chop reimbursement to doctors to 1/3 of current levels.
4. Discourage anyone from wanting to be a doctor.
5. Now that demand is up and supply is down, ration medical care (actually this step is automatic).

This whole experiment in democracy was fun while it lasted. I learned to speak Spanish pretty well a long time back, so I'm hoping I can fit in well in México del Norte (formerly known as the USA). I just hope I never need medical care and have enough money for bribes.

Reform #1...EXTRACT every illegal we can get our hands on. Tax them. Then helicopter drop them over the border.

I used to be fluent as a kid. I’ve let it go. Need to get bi-lingual. Since I’m unemployed and it’s hard to find a job, if I could get the fluency back up I could land one of those lucrative Govt. jobs that pop up, but only if you are “bilingual”.

I was turned down for a job several years ago, that I was overly qualified for. Credentialed up the ying yang for ESL. I had my teaching license and full k-12 ESL plus spoke Spanish.

I was turned down by the principal because “I wasn’t a native Spanish speaker”, aka, I wasn’t Mexican. I have blond hair and blue eyes, and an Arizonan birth certificate. I couldn’t believe it. Instead of hiring me, she hired someone who was of Mexican descent, no teaching credentials.

Janet Nappy, ‘if you build a 50 ft. wall, they’ll come with a 51 ft ladder’ (something to that effect. that was here excuse for non-enforcement).

Obama and others don't let the Constitution get in the way. We are slowly becoming a nation with no consistent laws. It's becoming more and more like minority outcome based “rule of law”. That will be disastrous if it is not stopped.
