The government's so-called "Cash for Clunkers" program has been grabbing headlines, but it's not the only federal program putting money back into consumers' pockets. A new government program is poised to help appliance manufacturers the same way "Clunkers" gave a jump start to auto manufacturers.

As part of the Obama Administration's economic stimulus bill, nearly $300 million was set aside to fund a state-run rebate program for consumers purchases of Energy Star-qualified home appliances.

Why don't they just do a national yard sale where anyone can bring any junk laying around the house that they don't want to the nearest federal office and pick up a check. Better still, let's open up some new federal offices and hire a bunch of new bureaucrats to staff them.

I guess I’ll hold off a bit longer on the dishwasher and refrigerator purchases...

Crush them.
And refrigerators and washers and dryers.

Working machinery. Capital equipment that could be used by some that don’t have it.

Destroyed by socialists. Look at me, NOT being surprised.

Dimes for Dishwashers!

My new dishwasher just arrived at Sears, but I think at $242 OTD I did as well as with any rebate.

Even further down that line of reasoning.

Every household gets an “appliance voucher” with which they can choose from the (one of each type of) “state approved” appliances for their home.

On my last Com Ed bill, is the following statement. After reading this article, I wonder if what Com Ed is up to is part of the same program:

“Want to get rid of an old fridge or freezer? For a limited time, ComEd will pay you $25 to turn in your working second
refrigerator or freezer.”

Odd that.
