On Tuesday, MSNBCs Contessa Brewer fretted over health care reform protesters legally carrying guns: "A man at a pro-health care reform rally...wore a semiautomatic assault rifle on his shoulder and a pistol on his hip....there are questions about whether this has racial overtones....white people showing up with guns." Brewer failed to mention the man she described was black.

The rebellion referred to was rebellion against God. Scripture is filled with references to God's people successfully rebelling against oppressors or staving off invaders provided they were right with God first. This is not a license to revolution but you're mischaracterizing scripture.
Sounds a bit like Ghandi suggesting that the Jews should have happily gone to their fate in concentration camps to prevent war in europe.
Good One! Especially after reading the reports out of montana re:the townhall meeting. Total Fiasco.

“Sounds a bit like Ghandi suggesting that the Jews should have happily gone to their fate in concentration camps to prevent war in europe.”
That’s the pacifist interpretation of “turn the other cheek,” which I personally reject. I prefer the take that it means don’t take vengence but demand equality/respect. It comports with the biblical themse that (1) vengence isn’t to be taken by man — note that vengence and self defense are different things, as are vengence and righteousness, and (2) do not submit to man, only to God.
“If you are life loving conservertives, why should you support violence and bloodshed?”
it’s not about violence. it’s about strength and freedom. however I will say it is not a good PR move to win the hearts and minds of undecideds
I’m starting to think jeanguy04 has a VERY light understanding of scripture (not that mine is great, but c’mon, his takes are ridiculous). That, or he is INTENTIONALLY taking things out of context. If the latter, there is a little warning about that at the end of the Bible. Hint (for those who don’t know): It’s not a good thing, and the consequences are fairly awful...
oh and welcome to FR
:/
Lost part of my earlier reply where I explained (or tried to) that the “dont take vengence but demand equality/respect” interpretation only makes sense in terms of the culture/history of the day. Surprisingly, the wiki I linked above covers it. (I say surprisingly because I just don’t trust wiki anymore — been plenty said about that in freeper land, though.)
This is a video that actually shows the black man’s face with commentary.

Thank you.. :) I’ll pass the link to all those I’ve passed the articles to.
I've been seeing that a lot on conservative or libertarian boards. Although I know lots of born again Christians who don't know their bibles as well as they should, I keep running into people who seem like they're either misremembering sunday school from a few years ago or who are just quickly paging through their bibles in search of pithy talking points. Either way they need to be set right whenever they post inaccuracies so that others don't fall into the same misunderstanding / misquoting / mischaracterizing of scripture.
“I’ve been seeing that a lot on conservative or libertarian boards.”
By “that”, I mean people trying to warp scripture to make a leftist talking point.
