Grassley: FCC Diversity Chief May Stifle Talk Radio

Tuesday, August 18, 2009 5:26 PM

By: Rick Pedraza

Sen. Charles Grassley is worried that Obama administration’s new federal communications "diversity" director may try to regulate talk radio with a "backdoor" method akin to the Fairness Doctrine.

The Iowa Republican expressed his concerns because of a paper in which Mark Lloyd, the diversity director, alleged a “structural imbalance” in political talk radio and suggested increasing government involvement to regulate it. Lloyd co-authored the paper for the liberal Center for American Progress.

Grassley sent a letter Friday to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski voicing strong disagreement with the idea that government needs to regulate talk radio and arguing that a return to the Fairness Doctrine would end the diversity of views on the airwaves.

“Taken together, these statements represent a view that the FCC needs to expand its regulatory arm further into the commercial radio market,” Grassley wrote. “I am concerned that, despite his statements that the Fairness Doctrine is unnecessary, Mr. Lloyd supports a backdoor method of furthering the goals of the Fairness Doctrine by other means.

“Simply put, I strongly disagree with Mr. Lloyd,” Grassley wrote about the paper’s conclusion that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system.

“I do not believe that more regulation, more taxes or fines, or increased government intervention in the commercial radio market will serve the public interest or further the goals of diversifying the marketplace,” Grassley wrote.

In the context of the other ongoing debacles, it would be suicidal to try to pull this off at this time. Like you said, go ahead and try.

What these turds don’t understand is that the airwaves belong to the public - not the government.

Thank you stupid Americans for voting this Marxist into office. I hope you enjoy our demise as a great country. Is this the hope and change you wanted? I think not. Couldn’t stand Bush, huh? Hated him?? Well, how are you lovin’ what you voted into office?

Americans can be the dumbest people on earth, sometimes. (refers to those who voted for this radical man.)

They will not regulate content, but limit what shows air in which towns. They’ll set up a community advocacy group who will decide what’s in the “best interests” of their towns in terms of what gets on the radio.

They’ll say a locally oriented show benefits the community more than a syndicated show, so we’ll have to listen to the Simon the Urban Gardener preach about being green.

Ya know, I'm not sure that Obama is worried about re-election, for himself or for his fellow Democrats.
Maybe he doesn't care as long as he gets what he wants this term.
Maybe he figures his core group is “safe” or that the ‘Pubbies aren't going to find any leaders that he can't have the MSM dismember for him.
Maybe he thinks that between the MSM, ACORN and the upcoming census, he's got nothing to worry about.
Dunno, but it is worrisome. There is no end to the damage a kamikaze administration can do...

He might not be worried about re-election, although I have never known a demagogue of his caliber to willingly relinquish power when there is a chance of keeping it. But there are many members of Congress who have no other lives, and no other interests, aside from keeping their elected positions and what power they can exercise. They are not going to throw themselves on HIS sword. So far, he hasn’t gotten very much of what he wants. The only thing, in fact, was the stimulus bill, which Congress gave him as a Welcome Wagon presentation. Everything else is still up in the air.

The stimulus was written by the Apollo Project socialist/marxist goons some of whom are now czars in Obama’s White House. One, Van JOnes, was in rpison and converted to communism, and now is the green jobs czar under Obammy. The criminality of the Obama administration isn’t even hidden, yet the media fifth column refuses to report on it!

The very evil David Obey and his Approps Committee staff wrote the stimulus bill, much of which was in the works before Christmas. It passed in early February. Van Jones wasn’t even nominated until March, and had nothing to do with that bill. There are plenty of Socialists in Congress to do the dirty work. They didn’t need Jones, who I doubt can write a sentence in standard English, and who would surprise me if he had even a vague grasp of the Approps process.

He is Obama's Czar that was appointed in charge of the FCC. He answers to no one except Obama. Congress did not approve these Czars and we didn't elect them. It is Obama's way to seize control of our government and will insure that he remains in power. Our wimpy GOP 'leaders' had better do something now so it can go before the USSC to reign in this Socialist pos, or it will be too late.

“May” try to regulate content?

This was the whole point to having a diversity clown for radio.

You are incorrect. Van JOnes's org, Apollo Project wrote the teeth of the bill, not Van Jones. Harry Reid even thanked them for their work at Apollo in fashioning the bill! ... BTW, what Van Jones can do with the English language might just surprise you. The fellow commies Obama has enlisted as his aides are not ignorant dolts, despite Carol Browner's public persona.

Phil Angelides of CA treasury infamy, and John Podesta, head of Center For American Progress (Soros's baby) are both involved in fashioning the stimulus package. Angelides is heading up the 'Financial Crisis Committee' for the White House. Podesta sent Brian Deese to the WH and he authored the 'cash for clunkers' debacle.

For those reading along who are not aware of the Apollo Project, it was funded fromt he Tides Foundation, and sitting atop the board of that foundation was/is Wade Rathke, founder of ACORN. The Apollo Project was founded by a small group of dedicated social activists, one of whom is Van JOnes, ex-prison population, avowed communist, avowed black nationalist, now green jobs czar in Obammy's White HOuse. [Talk about your security risks having access to the nations most sensitive archives!] The Apollo Project was an effort to combine the influence of the green movement, social activism, and the unions, tapping into the funding from these three and combining interests to isntitute a socialist nation. Cap & Tax/Trade is also a brainchild fromt he green movement Van Jones matriculated into.

Yes, Mark Lloyd’s own words on John Conyers’ committee leash indict him as a socialist, pure and blatant.
