WASHINGTON Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.
Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.
The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."
The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

heheheee! :^D
John hasn’t said anything, I probably shouldn’t have commented.
The death of our beloved nation occurs when less than 50% of the population pays taxes, and the majority become parasites. We are perilously close to that eclipse with looming legislation for either the health care or cap & trade shell games.
To paraphrase the Gipper:
Its a recession when your neighbor loses his job.
It a depression when you lose your job.
Its recovery when Obama / Congresscritters loses their job.
Looks like the entire Democratic party is in total disarray over this. Everyday Obama and the Dems try a different strategy, but it’s not working.
I believe the die has been cast, and public sentiment is so strong against this, that nothing much will get passed.
My concern is that this moderate republicans will compromise for something watered down, which will remove their ability to campaign against this in 2010/2012.
This thing is on the ropes; don’t let them up.
It is my firm belief that if the socialist try this alone and succeed (which is doubtful)there will be massive civil disruptions, property damage and human loss of life to a scale unseen in our lifetime. It will be far beyond the riots after Michael King was assassinated or that silly little Rodney King affair. Maybe I’m wrong??
‘Go it alone’? What the hell does that mean?
They don’t have the votes in the house for a bill without the ‘public option’. They don’t have the votes in the senate for a bill WITH the ‘public option’.
So, how are they going to ‘go it alone’? Just have Obama decree it to be law and skip all the other pesky stuff?
Maybe this is just a plan to get the idiot Republicans to get all misty about the old days of ‘bi-partisanship’ or something.
Nahhh...your instinct is correct :)
All that’s going to happen when the lame duck congress in 2010 tries to ram through all this stuff before the new guys get their power.
Ooh, I know!
Obama will appoint a ‘House Czar’ and a ‘Senate Czar’ and have them pass it instead. Done and done. See, that was easy. Why didn’t we think of that before?
By Fiat they are adding two new amendment:
Illegal Aliens and Americans have the right to health-care services provided at the expense of other Americans from any state in the union, with such expenses to be confiscated at whatever amounts a Czar may dictate.
American citizens are legally obligated to provide health-care to any constituent of the Democratic party. Doctors and Citizens will either participate or be subjected to terms in prison.
I see. Well. I think it is time to buy some more ammo (I have enough guns thank you). God Bless America. We will walk proudly out of the smoke.
Yowsah!! :^D
I don’t get it either. The votes are not there to go it alone.
It looks like total disarray with a lot of free lancers doing their own thing. Almost every day, there is someone from the administration contradicting what was said the previous day.
Money talks. Are Democrats getting threats from liberal groups, unions, Soros, etc. that if they don’t go ahead with a public option plan, the money support is going away?
This is beyond stupid.
Any joy is premature and unwarranted. Consider this truism: once a law is passed, a bureaucracy constructed, or an entitlement established, it isn't going away. Remember the 104th Congress? Yes, it had some truly revolutionary effects, but despite the atmosphere being right (the left and right at the time were screaming about Social Security's solvency), nothing changed with Social Security. Remember Gingrich advocating the end of the FCC? Sorry, it's still here. Remember the Reagan administration's efforts to can the US Dept of Education? That went well, didn't it?
And even if the 2010 elections bring the GOP back into the Congress, seriously, what is going to change? Under GOP control the Congress did what over the past few years? Pass Ted Kennedy's education reform bill, No Child Left Behind (then got all the blame for it). Expanded Medicare entitlements. Pass the so-called Patients Bill of Rights that the Dems had been peddling on the hill unsuccessfully for a decade.
Your children and grandchildren are going to be crushed under the coming nationalized medical service. And I'll bet you that 100 years from now, the program will be completely insolvent and still nobody will be able to do a damn thing to get rid of it. Or even know how, as freedom and liberty will be a dim memory.
moderate (the cowards) republicans, won't run.
They've seen what happen to the 'rats.
*smack forehead*
I forgot, they're the STUPID PARTY
The glee here is similar to that when Congress voted down the stimulus package of 2008, only to have the rug pulled from under us. I do not expect any less this time around. We are not safe until the GOP retakes the House in 2010 (and heaven help us if they don’t).
Now, think of the new death option: is Ted the K too sick to vote? By hanging on is he sucking up the oxygen that a younger, more vibrant and productive member of society could put to better use in his Senate seat (not to mention expelling noxious CO2 and alcohol fumes - ewwwwww). Will Ted the K take his own end-of-life counseling and shuffle off his mortal coil to ensure Deval can appoint a living breathing 60th vote in the Senate? Take that last swim for the team, Teddie.
