NYT: DEMS PLAN TO GO IT ALONE ON HEATHCARE... DEVELOPING...

Democrats see little chance for GOP cooperation on health care

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."

The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

They will pass this bill no matter what the cost— who they need to buy, blackmail, or muscle. The Obama world order is on the precipice (that didn't take long).

We need a strategy that they can't know until the last minute.

Obviously, they want this to happen and they’re going to get it. And forget the midterms now. They plan on legalizing all the current illegals, and will no doubt allow a chain migration of all relatives of these current illegals to join they’re newly legalized relatives. If they’re gonna ram through this monstrosity to destroy our system, they’ll definitely ram through legislation to make sure that any election this day forward will be in name only. The outcome they want will already be assured. This new permanent voting block who will keep them in power forever. Nothing Conservatives can muster will be able to counter that.

Face it folks. This moment is the culmination of 60-plus years of totalitarian subversion by totalitarians all over the world trying to destroy this country. We’ve been the place everyone has tried to come to and the totalitarians hate that. The Demonrats are now just one vote away from putting us past the point of no return.

If they pull this trigger socialized health care is there's hook, line, and sinker. I would be very surprised if they do this without some GOP support.

-- but a few weeks ago I saw Harry Reid say, "President Obama is the quarterback -- he calls the plays." I was astonished at his abdication of his Constitutional responsibility. --

Frist and McConnell did exactly the same for President Bush on FISA, PATRIOT Act, the Military Commission Act, and probably half of what passed Congress when Bush was President and the GOP held Congress. Those branches don't do "check and balance" for the people's benefit. That's why I used the word "fiction." Still, the legislative language has to pass the body of Congress, and on paper (but not in fact), the words are all theirs.

I don’t see it happening. There are some dems who will want to keep their jobs over toeing the party line. With this economy who in their right minds wants to be out of a job?

What was the French Revolution?

A time when an entire nation went stark raving psychotic. Remember, after the French people executed the King, Queen and nobility, they started going after one another. In the end, they ended up with a new king (Napoleon). What a waste.

Reconciliation brings in a whole new element to the game...how many Democrat Senators aren’t willing to blow up the Senate for the sake of Obama’s career? If it’s 4, 5 then that would be enough to kill it.

I think it’s a bluff, based on Conrad and Grahams statements.

The liberal wing of the party (I know, sounds redundant) won’t go for it if it isn’t socialistic enough.

If it takes subterfuge to pass, then either "it isn't a good thing," or the society is past saving.

Liberals, once you cross the river, stand and watch it burn.

Think twice, there will be no turning back.

The GOP is at least as pro-amnesty as the DEM party.

Nonsense. Bush was pro-amnesty (as were McCain, Graham and others) and yet the last amnesty bill (McCain-Kennedy) was defeated by Republicans. Don't talk crap, things are bad enough as it is.

First, it is 15 months until the next election.

Second, the bulk of the payoff money from the “stimulous package” doesn’t get spent until next year (just ahead of the election).

Third, much of the American citizenry is so degraded, ignorant and/or indifferent that once the initial brouhaha that will follow in the wake of the bill is over they will simply roll over and forget.

Fourth, The GOP can be counted on to nominate a lot of “moderate” dweebs. There is no strong leadership in that party (yet) and the rats know this and count on the opposition to play ball as usual. They think 1994 was a fluke and they may be right.

It may well be that the leftists are counting on all these along with the unqualified support of the leftist media and general GOP incompetence to get them thru the next election no matter what they do this year.
