GLENFIELD, N.D. For the first time in five months, Janet Morgan was on her way to work...
Open space and open jobs, which is why Morgan and thousands of others have moved to North Dakota during the past year. The state, once known primarily for its remoteness, is enjoying a new reputation as a haven amid economic collapse. It has the countrys lowest unemployment rate at 4.2 percent, a budget surplus of $1.2 billion and more than 9,000 unfilled jobs.

I bet you don’t see too many people move there in the winter.
Could it be the illegals from south of the border don't like the cold weather, and that's why unemployment is low in North Dakota?
We did in January.
No way. From where?
And those smart enough to arrive and get set up before Winter sets in...
The story doesn’t make sense. The lady buys a home 150 miles from her job and she thinks she’s going to save money?
Sure, she's gonna buy one of them there Volt thingies and get 232 MPG.
Bet you don’t see too many brass monkeys living up there either.
Wisconsin - where manufacturing and technology are fleeing the state. While here in ND they are the fastest growing sectors. What taxes and unions have killed off elsewhere, thrives here.
Driving 150 miles every day to work will prove to be deadly for this poor misguided soul.
Aw heck, if your from Wisconsin, North Dakota might be a little nippy, but it ain’t too bad. That lady from Ohio is in for a treat this winter though.
From reading the article, I say good for her. Compare her to the welfare bums who sit around and wait for the freebies first of each month. However, she will jump jobs within 3 months and regret buying that place in the boonies. But life will go on.
The same thing will happen in ND that happened to Oregon and Washington. Californian Liberals ran from the taxes, illegals and cost of living, only to recreate the same problems they moved away from by voting Democrat and supporting the Unions.
Uh, no. Wisconsin folks have certainly seen snowy winters, cold winters, but they’ve not seen ND winters.
Our living in Wyoming gives us an appreciation for winter. Winter in Wyoming is an opportunity to behold nature’s fury in full force.
But as bad as winters are in Wyoming (sub-zero cold, snow that blows sideways at 60MPH, drifts 6’ deep, cars blown off the roads), the ONE thing that all Wyomingites agree on is this:
“Look on the bright side: we’re not in North Dakota.”
Because as bad as winters are in Wyoming, this state is just a “warm up pen” for North Dakota. ND is where the varsity winter storms go to play.
As we’re standing in snow drifts, howling winds and sub-zero cold in Wyoming, we gaze with awe and respect eastward across our border and ask “How the heck do they do it? What do they put on their corn flakes in the morning? Powdered testosterone?”
I have spent a ton of time in North Dakota. Nowhere will you find finer people. I’d live there with no regrets whatsoever.
I fear that. People need to be educated on what went wrong - and the media isn't going to do that.
LOL People here are tough, but also the kindest I've ever met.
In the winter, I think about the people (mostly Scandinavians) who settled here - and did it without central heating and block heaters.
I read about a family that settled near Carrington who got there late in the summer. They dug a hole in the ground, flipped the wagon over on top of it and lived there the first winter. Now those are tough people.
I’ve said for a long time, living in a place where the weather/climate WILL QUITE HAPPILY KILL YOU for a goodly portion of the year makes people a bit more tolerant and friendly, generally.
