S.C. Johnson Denies They Pulled Ads from Beck
Despite Wild Claims from Boycotters, Few Companies Confirm They've Cancelled Ads

Several in our community have received the following email from SC Johnson...

Patricia,
Thank you for sharing your concerns as there is some potentially misleading information on the web about this topic.

SC Johnson has not pulled or cancelled advertising for the Glenn Beck show, as we never directed our advertising to this particular program. In general, our goal is to provide good, informative ads and we select those programs and/or networks that make the most sense given our consumer base.

Clearly advertisers who had previously said they were withdrawing ads from Glenn's show are now feeling the pressure of thousands of loyal Beck fans expressing their anger and threatening to go to their competitors for business. It's becoming clear that a handful of 40-something losers blogging in their Mom's basement managed to put an initial scare into these companies, and many of them made a BIG mistake in cancelling their ads.

Now they will find out how big an economic force is 2.4 million viewers who actually work for a living.

Not exactly. Some high-profile names have confirmed they are yanking, Sargento going so far as calling Beck "hate speech". Travelocity also had some harsh words. Pretty stupid, since there is Expedia and a million other sites. Why antagonize 2.4 million viewers?

Advertising is only effective if people actually see or hear it.

Where else would a smart company go to reach the most viewers?

CNBC? NBC? CNN? ABC? CBS? MSNBC?

No, if you want more bang for your bucks, FOX is where it’s at!

I got the same response from them when I e-mailed them. I urged them not to pull from the “most educational show on tv”.
I’m so pissed, I think I’ll question EVERY business I patronize from now on, whether their BOSS (CEO) voted for this administration—if so, they’re not gettin’ MY money.
Hell....who makes Oreos? I’d even give those up!

Not sure if it is the same now as it was, but advertisers bought time during a particular time period - so possibly not during any particular program but rather between the hours of xxx and xxx. It may be the same now - which means they do not name a particular show but between the hours of 4 and 7 pm for example.

That would explain the words in the email.

I’ve thought of boycotting any business that contributes to dems. The problem I’ve run into is owners who hedge their bets by giving to both sides, like Donald Trump. I’m so sick of the fence straddlers.

This is what Conservative organization is all about. What if all the companies that support this socialist agenda get boycotted by everyone in the TEA party movement? Normally, boycotts don’t work, but these are not normal circumstances. We have a highly motivated and large group of Americans looking for ways to support liberty and freedom. We need to get the information out on which products and services to avoid and why. If enough people get involved, this could lead to the next level of peaceful dissent. On top of that, we can find businesses that are a part of the TEA party movement that we can actively support.

Reasons why it would be a good idea
1. Hurt companies supporting this agenda during a recession
2. Diversifies the dissent from the town halls
3. Americans have dozens of purchasing decisions every day, and now they easily promote the cause
4. More information will allow the American people make better decisions

I am going to start working on this. If any other FReeper wants to help out with ideas or research PM me.

Beck will come out of this just fine. His show on Fox is ratings Gold. In this era of economic duress, most companies will NOT bail from the show with the fastest growing viewership on the most watched cable news network in America.

Maybe we will get lucky and extenze, viagra, cialis, and all the other magic pills will get pulled off of Fox.

Having to explain ideas to a 4 year old way before its time when you are just trying to watch the news in prime time gets old.

We went to Costco to stock up today after just finishing my two week vacation. We looked VERY closely for the P&G label on anything we bought. We had to pass on what we normally buy - Charmin.

I must confess that it appears to be the only product of theirs that we (used to) use.

It is about demographics.

Good thing we are being forced to move away from State Farm here in Florida. They are closing their home insurance group in this state because the laws will not let them raise their rates enormously to offset what they think their losses could be in the event of future major hurricanes. We also bundled our auto and flood with them.

They decided to threaten the State that they would leave and the State called their bluff. The good thing is that it forced us to do some shopping and we are still evaluating our choices. Right now Farm Owners has the top of the totem pole.

State Farm doesn’t take any risks. We looked at them here (Tennessee) and they wouldn’t cover a home that had wood heat. My daughter went with them and they told her she had to either get rid of her trampoline or put a cage around it. She just sent it down to our house since she’s only 500 feet from us.

I’m surprised they stay in business in rural TN due to the wood heat thing. Wood is the way to heat in most rural communities like mine. We’ve been with TN. Farm Bureau for over 20 years now and they didn’t say a word about the wood stove. They checked it to see if it was safe and that was all.

I don’t know if State Farm still refuses to insure homes with wood heat or not but we’ve been happy with Farm Bureau.

Yesterday, SC Johnson was singing a very different tune in response to DailyKos agitators, saying they "would be instructing our agents not to advertise on Beck's program"

Well, newspapers, magazines, and movies all gave the finger to conservatives - and it hasn't hurt them at all... /s
