"Anti-Immigration Activists See Opportunity in Health Care Debate" [blown opportunity]

[...loon makes stupid, counter-productive statements at townhall...]

As the heat gets turned up on the health care reform debate, anti-immigrant activists are using the issue to whip up fear and anger toward immigrants, portraying them as a costly and burdensome drain on any taxpayer-supported U.S. health care system. Angry questions about illegal immigrants getting health care at town hall meetings across the country have put many lawmakers on the defensive.

At his town hall meeting in Pennsylvania, for example, Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter had to assure protesters that illegal immigrants would not be covered. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has gone out of her way to make that point as well. Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) faced similar shouted questions at his town hall forum on Wednesday, and repeatedly emphasized that illegal immigrants are not covered by the House bill. President Obama has also made the point, although it’s not clear that the anti-reform activists have heard it.

The article is misleading, and if the questions being asked are as she describes then those asking the questions are just wasting everyone's time by asking the wrong question.

What Obama plans to do is legalize illegal aliens first, then give them healthcare. Through that magical process, illegal aliens won't get healthcare, just those who were illegal aliens the day before.

So, asking a politician if illegal aliens will get UHC is pointless: the politician might accurately say they won't, when in fact they will due to Obama's magical plan.

This is a good opportunity to discredit UHC if I can get help from you. What I need you to do is to contact local persons and groups who are going to go ask questions and get them to ask better questions. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to try to find every activist group in the U.S. and contact them directly, so I need others to chip in a little time.

A better question might go something like: "Sen. SoAndSo, at the last meeting you said illegal aliens won't get UHC. But, isn't that because you intend to put them on the 'path to citizenship' first, then give them healthcare? That is, someone could be an illegal alien one day and on the 'path to citizenship' - and eligible to get UHC - the next. Weren't you being deceptive before? You said illegal aliens won't get UHC, but you didn't reveal that's because you're just going to change their status first. Isn't that deceptive?"

This was written by a former labor union lawyer who was active in the anti-war movement until the day BO was sworn into office, after which she became curiously silent on the subject. Now she has turned her Socialist attentions toward open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.

Illegals are included in the bill by not being excluded!

They are currently covered under Medical in California along with all the poor.

FYI

Most Voters Say Immigration Reform Not Likely to Pass
Thursday, August 13, 2009

Voter preferences are clear, however. By a 70% to 22% margin, voters say that gaining control of the borders is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already in the country.

Three-out-of-four voters believe that the federal government is not doing enough to secure the nation’s borders. Roughly the same number want cops to check the immigration status of all offenders during traffic stops. Sixty-seven percent (67%) also say that if law enforcement officers know of places where immigrants gather to find work, they should sometimes conduct surprise raids to identify and deport those who are here illegally. On another hot button topic, 77% of voters nationwide oppose drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants.

Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters nationwide say that those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should be punished. By a 48% to 36% margin, voters say the same about landlords who rent to illegal immigrants.
