Democrats Will Likely Prevent Vote to Remove Abortion From Health Care

Washington, DC -- When members of Congress return from their August recess, the first battle over the abortion funding found in the health care bills will occur in the House. There, it appears Democratic leaders will prevent a vote on an amendment to remove the abortion funding from the bill.

They claim it isn’t in there. I say anything they claim “isn’t in there” should be EXPLICITLY PROHIBITED in the language of the final bill.

That way they will have to pass a new bill SPECIFICALLY to add in what they claimed wasn’t in it initially.

If the bill isn’t explicit one way or the other, they won’t need to pass new legislation to specifically permit it. It could be done through “policy” change or executive order.

They refuse to accept that abortion funding is as much a show-stopper as the death panels.

This is the same type of argument that led to the Bill of Rights. In this case the poor Democrats are walking a tight rope. If the bill expressly provides for abortion funding, at least some of the Blue Dogs will balk. If the bill expressly prohibits such funding, the Liberals (especially the feminists) will balk. So the poor Democrats are not expressly dealing with abortion in this bill and are hoping to get ObamaCare enacted so it can be dealt with later.

Well, it’s not surprising they would do that. To the liberals/Democrats, abortion is a matter of “women’s health”, and part of “comprehensive reproductive health services” or some such pablum. To them, there is no moral or ethical quandry, as it’s just another “health” procedure.

Anything of the death culture that is removed from this monstrocity, will become an endless election battle from now on. The Left wants the ultimate power to decide who lives and who dies by the terms they and only they set.

Every election will involve a group targeted for denial of health care.

haven’t they already voted down a half dozen bills that would have stopped this DeathCare bill from ever paying for abortions?...Even though of course they say that the bill doesn’t say it can “now”.

“...they won’t need to pass new legislation to specifically permit it. It could be done through “policy” change or executive order.”

I believe that such situations will be handled by the “independent” commission that the bill calls for. This panel will make annual recommendations for changes to the healthcare program. Supposedly, the recommendations will become law unless congress specifically VOTES AGAINST the recommendations, at which time none of the recommendations would be added.

It sounds suspiciously like the poiticians’ pay raises, whereby a commission recommends raises, and the raises become law unless congress votes against raises for themselves.

Don’t worry. If not specifically prohibited, a federal court will reliably find the right to taxpayer funded abortion under some penumbra or emanation. We used to be a republic.

I don’t think folks really get what is going on. The Bills do not spell out what is covered. A panel of “experts” will decide that. They are also the real “Death Panels” because they set the rules for coverage. Taking out counseling is good but the real danger lies in this panel and it is they I think are the “Death Panels.” This needs to be understood as what they have removed is minor compared to what these guys will do. When you buy a private plan, they tell you what is covered before you sign up. These government guys sell you the plan, they make the rules and you go along.

The abortion fight has the potential to be even bigger than the “Death Panal” fight. We folks who view people who participate (pregnant women, doctors, nurses, legislators and whoever)in abortions as murderers are not gonna sit quietly in the corner.

Dems think the present round of town hall meetings is tough are gonna see a whole new ball game when it comes to abortion. There will be pictures of aborted dead fetuses and pics of babies who survived abortion. The abortion crowd has been suppressing these images for years. If they try to make me pay for abortions it will get ugly.

I’m in no way advocating violence, but these Marxist bums will definitely know I’m in the room.

Your interpretation is scary, but I think it's spot on...great analysis.

What I also think is a problem in this whole debate is that Obama keeps speaking of "principles of healthcare reform," yet it's done without including any specifics. This gives him a lot of wiggle room during his stump speeches, and more groups buy into "healthcare reform," than they do any specific bill.

But that's the problem for Congress to deal with -- they're writing specific bills, and what people are seeing in them, they're rightfully angry with. It's these bills that will eventually be crafted, manipulated, twisted, and amended into the final law however. For now though, that's not Obama's concern. He's triangulating over his healthcare "principles," and staying away from any controversial bills.
