As a result of state budget cuts, the Healthy Families program will have to begin terminating coverage for more than 60,000 children on Oct. 1. Nearly 670,000 children could be dropped by June 30.

Reporting from Sacramento - A state board voted today to begin terminating healthcare coverage for tens of thousands of low-income children on Oct. 1, the result of budget cuts recently signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

More than 60,000 children, up for annual reevaluation of their coverage next month, would be dropped from the Healthy Families program in October under the action by the state Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board.

Notice that it's a government agency, the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board, taking medical coverage away from the children.

That's so Obama.

The LIBERAL LIE exposed. It was never ever about the children, it has always been about the liberal constituency that Pretends To Serve The Children.

Just more bureaucrats looking for sympathy from voters by taking the most drastic action. I’m sure if you pored thru their books there are tens of millions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse that could be eliminated first. This is just a pathetic attempt to get citizens riled up and crying to restore funding (i.e. tax increases).

Too much nanny state government, too little OPM.

California is just ahead of the United States as a whole in the descent into the deepest parts of socialist hell.

There’s a simple solution to this problem and to all of California’s woes.

Tax the rich.

To help mitigate this, First Five, which is Rob Reiner’s taxpayer funded club for otherwise unemployable liberals, is actually going to spend some of the money it has been throwing away on indoctrination programs on providing medical care. This is, of course, money the state would have had for the programs if Rob hadn’t grabbed it for his pet project.

What goes unmentioned in these stories is that kids are already re-evaluated on an annual basis to determine whether they really should be receiving publicly provided care, or their parents should be paying for it. A significant portion of these ‘60,000 children’ fit in the latter category. And, in many cases, what the state will do is start enforcing the guidelines it should have been enforcing all along.

How many of the 60K are the children of illegals or illegals themselves?

Those cruel Nazi-like California Democrats have no shame. Why would they want to cut off healthcare to 60,000 poor children?

If obozo had his way they would not have made it to being born.

He got it covered coming and going, the old are denied care if it costs to much and the innocent babies have their brains sucked out.

I thought health care was “free.” If it is free, then why are they cutting it? Aren’t the children paying enough? Maybe if more people used the free health care they wouldn’t have to stop providing it.

My head hurts from too much thinking about this issue.

Dropping children from the INSURANCE program, no necessarily keeping them from medical attention.
A subtle but important distinction...
