In what can fairly be described as an admission that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin knew what she was talking about, the Senate Finance Committee Thursday dropped language from its bipartisan healthcare reform package that Palin and others had suggested would eventually lead to mandated end-of-life counseling sessions for seniors.
Supporters of Obamacare, including President Barack Obama, had accused Palin and others of being dishonest in suggesting the counseling sessions would somehow lead to the government encouraging euthanasia as a cost-cutting measure as part of rationed care.
"The rumor that's been circulating a lot lately is this idea that somehow the House of Representatives voted for death panels that will basically pull the plug on grandma because we've decided that we don't, it's too expensive to let her live anymore," Obama said recently.

Sarah will now get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservatie principles all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disaster and gain great political capital in the process. Then she will support conservative candidates in 2010 and help them win, amassing much more political capital. She will then take all of that and make an awesome, stunning run for the Presidency in 2012.

Great except I want this bill gone! We should have a new mantra, “just kill the damn bill”, otherwise they’ll cut a piece here and there and let enough of this monster through to finish us off. IMHO
If you pull back some from the “death panel” kerfuffle, you’ll see a bigger picture about what to do with the Social Security shortfall in the out years.
The biggest financial threat is, as the O Admin. says, 80% of health care costs go to those in the last years of life.
So, the Obama-rational solution is to get rid of the problem. Get rid of the folks in the last year(s) of life and save a bundle of billions that can be spent on the young and vigorus.
That’s why death panels are prime players.
We thin out over-populations of deer, coyote, etc. Why not Seniors?

Then there are really old folks with cancer ~ they go along quite healthy for years and years and years and finally they show up with cancer.
I'm not sure Obamacare can do anything about violent proclivities of identifiable ethnic groups, but possibly we should consider our prison system as part of our "in patient" treatment for those who would have otherwise generated high ER costs if they hadn't have been stopped. (Gosh, I think I just drop kicked our medical costs right on up to $2.5 trillion per year with that one).
This week's news has told us about some cancer treatment breakthroughs that might well result in the total elimination of that condition within years, not decades.
Then the very old will just keep chugging along and not spending anything on medical care except prosthetic knees, hip joints and new teeth.

Next, Sarah needs to introduce the concept of “end of term” panels to help ex-congress critters adjust during their return to reality.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the precedent for this issue. People said that it would lead to quotas, and Hubert Humphrey said he would eat his hat if it did. He was wrong.We can't trust the government to steer clear of euthanasia if it passes a law which even mentions something suggestive of it.
