FCC’s 'Diversity Officer' Wants to Force Private Stations to Fund Public Stations Dollar for Dollar

Matt Cover at the Media Research Center's News Division, CNSNews.com, has a piece out today entitled "FCC’s Chief Diversity Officer Wants Private Broadcasters to Pay a Sum Equal to Their Total Operating Costs to Fund Public Broadcasting."

This is insane. The "Chief Diversity Officer" in question, Mark Lloyd, is calling for the gross operating budget for every private radio station each year to be the fee (tax) they pay for their broadcast license for the year, with the monies going to the always liberal public stations. With whom they then must compete for listeners.

So it is pretty much an “Economic Based Un-Fairness Doctrine”?

Matt Cover has stressed out. Best we just put his name on a list of public enemies to be imprisoned after the Obama regime is moved off the stage of history. Maybe he can get some care then.

This administration is following the plot line of one of those futuristic movie where the government has gone total fascist.

Diversity Officer at the FCC has as much power over issues like this as I do as King of Jupiter regulating Saturn’s rings.

The power in the FCC is with the 5 commissioners and even they wouldn’t have the authority to make such a regulation.

This is hysteria pure and simple. Even if it weren’t it would affect every radio station not just talk radio. Don’t think the music industry would stand aside and see their airplay threatened. Not to mention the major league sports leagues that would see their radio limit vanish. Last but not least... Disney, CBS, NBC and every media concern under the sun covers politics and guess what they own lots of?

Enough already with the diversity poison. After the revolution this garbage is going on the ash heap of history.

You realize that to these people stations going out of business and shutting down would be justification for more liberal, I mean “public” stations being opened up.

Let public broadcasting run commercials like everyone else. Much of their programing is either offensive or incredibly boring and/or biased, but hey, somebody may want to advertise there.

This explains why the next time Republicans get control of the government, they need to put the “Corporation for Public Broadcasting” out of business once and for all. The good highly-rated shows (including Sesame Street) will easily find homes on commercial or cable television and nobody is going to care about the rest of them, anyway. If they want to continue as a non-profit totally supported by private donations and the licensing fees from shows like Seseme Street, that’s fine, too. But get the government out of funding them.

Its also not legal for the government to ask people to turn in their neighbor for casual conversations. Its also against the law for them to not keep them forever since they now say they don't keep the emails.

Who is going to stop them?

This is hysteria pure and simple. Agreed.

No denying that the clown in question is evil, but what he actually said was, “Federal and regional broadcast operations and local stations should be funded at levels commensurate with or above those spending levels at which commercial operations are funded."

Given that commercial operations vastly outnumber government stations, they would be taxed maybe 10% of their revenues.

All the same, that would be an outrage. A proper government would have dropped funding for any broadcasting operations years ago.

I have decided to launch a right-wing “public” radio station, how do I apply for funds?

This is the socialist puke who wrote the report called, “The Structural Imbalance of Talk Radio”, which calls conservative talk radio a “problem”, and who is the point guy for the Fairness Doctrine. Very nasty piece of work. Only the Obama administration would have even thought about giving him a job.

We don’t need public TV or radio anymore. There are hundreds of cable channels offering better, more educational content than PBS (same for radio.)

It would be cheaper to eliminate public broadcasting and take that money and provide cable TV service to low income houses.

No, I don’t like the idea, but given a choice between funding PBS and funding the cost of cable, I’m going for the cable options. More diversity (something the left likes) and we quit funding one of the left’s major mouthpeices: PBS.

What do we have to do? Pretend to be liberals, get a foot in the door, once there gradually move towards the right more and more and however far we move to the right rename it the “middle”, hire more and more people who are like minded, gently turn so barely noticed until public radio is conservative and nobody knows how in the world Rush Limbaugh is in charge there? (Like Stephanopolous et al). Maybe some of the goals can’t happen overnight.

Fascinating. Get the private stations to bankroll liberal talking point radio stations.

A Guerrilla Fairness Doctrine.
