“Bad news. Republicans taking away the most outrageous provisions of the health care bill making it more palatable and more likely to pass...”

Exactly what I was thinking.

These dopes need to drop the whole thing.

GET OUT OF OUR LIVES!

To be fair, Obama never said this provision didn't exist; he said that these provisions didn't constitute "death panels" - which, in a way, was true. Strictly looking at the language of these provisions, there's nothing necessarily wrong with Medicare paying for counseling for people to draft living wills/etc - of course, it could lead to terrible results (people pressured into drafting living wills that they don't want), but the language of the provisions were not, by themselves, "death panels."

The Health Benefits Advisory Committee, on the other hand - now that's a "death panel"

Great step, but of course it could be brought in through the reconciliation process, and it’s only one sordid aspect of the giant and gigantically despicable bill.

Still, a small victory for Palin. God bless her for taking a stand in an effective way.

We are in this mess because for decades Republicans and “conservatives” have given in little by little. Never taking a stand. Well now is the time to take a stand and say no.
The problem is that the GOP has NOT been the party of “no”. But rather the party of not quite so much. Time to be the party of NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doctors aren’t mind readers, if people want help they need to ask for it. Don’t try pushing your idiotic ideas about death care onto others. I don’t ever intend to seek “end of life” counseling because I figure I will die with out anyone’s help. However if others wish to do so they are free to talk to anyone that will listen to them. A doctor would seem a logical choice. You want limited health care, long waiting periods and end of life(read assisted suicide)sessions? Go to Cuba, Canada or Great Britain just to name a couple, don’t push them onto us.

Gee,O said it didn’t exist to begin with

Yea, pretty nifty little trick there getting rid of something the WH said didn't even exist.

Next question for Jake Tapper at the daily presser: Has Barrack Obama even read his own bill?

And I wonder what Lisa Murkowski will say to her constituents now, since she called Palin "nuts" for asserting that that provision was there. The Senate Finance committee just exposed Murkowski to be either a bold-faced liar or a negligent fool.

If Palin was 'nuts' for seeing what even the SFC is admitting now did exist, is Lisa Murkowski "nuts" for not seeing what was plainly there in black & white right under her big fat nose?

Just how much can Murkowski's constituents trust her to look out for their best interests if she was so derelict at catching something so obvious that even a 'nut' like Sarah Palin was able to pick up on it?

I agree with you. It’s just one part, and not even the most egregious of the bill’s contents — it was perhaps just the most shocking and blatant part of it in some ways (people don’t want the government deciding when and how they will die!)

It’s clear that the GOP has no grasp on the REAL state of the Nation’s people. They have a MAJORITY of people against this bill for various reasons. Obama is pulling out all the stops, and where is the GOP? Where would they be if not for Palin “going it alone” so to speak. Is she the ONLY one with the guts to come out slugging back? I sure hope not, but as you said it looks like the Republicans will be “bipartisan” and support this just like they supported the Stimulus bills, and the Bill of Attainder Bill (AIG Bonus 90% tax bill).

Frankly, with the exception of Palin and perhaps a few others who could POSSIBLY stand up and say SOMETHING at least, I think the Republicans see the writing on the wall and are trying to get their share of the pie Obama is offering up in his fascist dream-state.

PALIN VICTORY!!!

Yep, another one. And a big fat well-deserved black eye for Lisa Murkowski, who claimed Palin was nuts for saying what even the democratically controlled Senate Finance Committee now admits existed, just as Palin claimed.

Who looks like a stupid nutter now, Lisa?

People need some kind of advice about dealing with the end stage, if they don’t already know and understand what is involved. How do we get this to them safely?

Not by federally mandated end-of-life "consultations". The idea is to persuade an old person to refuse treatment and die so that the cost savings can be given to younger people under the age of 40. That includes illegal aliens.

How do we give this information to our loved ones? By talking to your doctor and nurses, and then talking things over with your family and loved ones. My mother died this year after 5 years of illness. Nobody pressured her. We told her what the options were. She made her own decision.

She did not want to die. She took the treatments that were available to her. Her life was prolonged by five years. I am very glad it was. We had 5 more years to spend with her before she died.

I do not want federally mandated end-of-life "consultations". It think death panel is a more appropriate term. The term cuts through all the platitudes.

The only thing between an elderly person and access to health care is a simple majority

Isn’t this panel already in place from the Stimulus Bill. I understood that it was already funded and staffed and Rahm’s brother is on it.

Good old GOP, still bringing butter knives to a gunfight.

I guess the senate can still hear, amazing! How about the house bill, wasn’t this provision in there as well?

The money could certainly be spent on more important medical proceedures than being taught how to die...eventually EVERY ONE, even Barak Obama gets that right.

Written in lawayereze, but Beck translated it last nite on his show.

You trust Beck to translate something for you that may have a devastating affect on your life? I wouldn't. FWIW, the numbers "1113" do not exist in the bill.

For people with limited education or who are in denial about the seriousness of their situation, they might not do that.

Most folks who live beyond 65 are quite capable of taking care of themselves and have managed to have kids, raise kids, buy a house, get a job, purchase groceries, etc. The elderly are not retarded.

Yup, and much of it they won’t tell us about

It’s all about power

That became even more apparant when obama changed from “health care reform” to “health insurance reform”

Heck, they should fix medicare first.

I read somewhere that it is 30 billion in the hole.
