Well, OK. I don't have a picture of mine, but it's a 1968 Les Paul Custom in cherry sunburst. I bought it for $300 with a cheap amp in 1972.

Les Paul has died at age 94. His electric guitar designs and innovations were central to the development of rock guitar artistry beginning in the early 1950s and continuing to this day. He was playing to the very end, too, in small groups in New York clubs.
So long to a great one...
You’re a lucky guy to have gotten Les Paul to autograph your guitar. I thought about doing that several times with my own axe, but never got to New York...

Sad news. He left the world a much better place for having been on it. I don’t have any Les Paul stories, other than it was, at one time, one of the guitars I dreamed mightily of one day owning.

He called it "The Log." He straped "wings" on it to disguise it as a "normal" hollow body guitar. No one could tell it was a solid body electric.
God bless him, he lived and was able to entertain to age 94. Still, I am sad when a legend like Ford passes. Grew up on Les Paul and Mary Ford. Reunited again.

In the early 1980’s he lived in a small home behind the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. I was a letter carrier at the time, and delivered a certified piece of mail to him. Yeah, he sure could make music.
He was a legend around milwaukee, to be sure. He appeared in a concert at the Pabst Theatre just last year, I think. Fairlyl recently, at least.

While I’ve never been a huge fan of Les Pauls, I just think it’s sacrilege to put a Floyd on one. :)
I love how they sound, but having picked up a few of them I know why Slash slouches.

Yes, they were really popular in the 50's I think. One of their great songs was "Somewhere There's Music".
My mon was a member of the RCA Victor music club. We got a new 78, with 3 songs every month. She wore grooves in the records playing them so much. I remember the first time I saw a 45 and aksked "What is that."
I remember the first time I heard Elvis, All Shook Uo.
We lived in Logan WVA and the only two radio stations we got down between the mountains were both country and western. My mom brought in swing and pop. I loved it all.
We used to watch Nat King Cole, Jimmy Durante, Grand Ole Opry, and Perry Como on TV. When Cole was cancelled, I was disappointed and didn't understand what was going on.
Genius, pure and simple.
Holy Crap! Too bad. I hope you didn’t sell you’re Les Paul — maybe it’s worth more today. Anyway, the world will miss him for all his music and innovation.
PS: We we’re a house full of Italians and not one singer in the bunch. When our son came along and had musical talents, we often wondered, is a DNA test was in order.
