Average American citizen Katy Abram's impassioned plea against socialized health care, at Senator Arlen Specter's town hall meeting on Tuesday, got her noticed by the "Hardball" producers as her clip was featured on Tuesday's show and she even received an invitation to appear tonight -- complete with the requisite scolding from the program's liberal host. Subbing for Chris Matthews, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell incorrectly challenged Abram's fear that Barack Obama wanted to move to a single-payer plan.
After Abram recalled that, "I heard him say on a quote, on television, that...we will move to a single-payer" plan, O'Donnell rebuked "He never said that." When Abram again insisted that she "Heard it on TV," O'Donnell adamantly asserted "The President of the United States has never said that." It turns out Abram knew her facts better than the cable news host, as Obama as recently as last year declared: "If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system," And, as Red State noted, in 2003 Obama told a crowd of AFL-CIO members: "I happen to be a proponent of single-payer, universal health care coverage."
The following exchange was aired on the August 12, edition of "Hardball":

Well, I wouldn’t call Joe the Plumber an attractive woman, but he got the same treatment. ;) Disagree with Barry and it’s time for the media arm of his thugs to beat you up on tv. Disgusting jackboots.
“Rich people will always be able to go offshore where the best doctors and equipment will be, anyway.”
That was my point. I’m just not sure they’ll even have to go offshore. But if so, no matter.
So then it’s not really single payer. So the middle class is left to pay for and be served by a government-controlled healthcare system (let’s call it Obamacare), and wait in line, figuratively and literally, with the poor and illegals, to get second-rate, rationed care, while the ruling class jets off to the best doctors and hospitals.
No thanks.
This thing has to be stopped before any bill at all passes. Once something is passed, no matter how attenuated, we get the whole totalitarian thing. If a piece of it is passed with the same number on it as one of the proposals in the works, even if only the title is left of it, the rest will be added in bit by bit by the commissars and the courts and little legislative amendments to other bills. The rationing that is inherent in this system can and will, of course, be used politically and will be implemented to favor or to disfavor groups and individuals who are not regarded as helpful to the system as well as individuals not deemed sufficiently productive.
Do wish we could get the exact date/place of his quotes to any future interviewee so they can lay iton the likes of O’Donnell during the interview, rather than conservatives following up among themselves after the fact.
(is it me or does O’Donnell look a little panicked in that photo from the clip).
In fact, can you name one attractive female in the Dem Party? Unattractive, even downright ugly (does Helen Thomas come to mind) liberal females gravitate to the cradle-to-grave party because they have neither the wit nor self-sufficiency to do otherwise.
Regards . . . Penny
This is just so, so bad, awful -- first Joe the Plumber has to be destroyed because he dared allow 0bama approach him as he was outside in front of his house playing with his children, 0bama engaged him, not the other way around. Now we have Katy the Mom, exercising her First Amendment right, addressing her elected representative to make her views on policy issue known at a public forum, she is hit with *the works* and treated extremely unprofessionally, to put it mildly, but this political hack-turned media head.
Anyone who tries to pull the "He wasn't president when he said it" line has ZERO credibility (no pun intended), since they are constantly calling Bill Clinton president, he is not. They don't care for proper and accurate, they don't get to claim that because this woman referred to the sitting president correctly when she put it, "I heard the president say ...." that he didn't say it -- he most certainly did, irrelevant that he had not been elected to the office she uses respectfully in reference now.
As for O'Donnell, yet one more Moynihan castoff, I'll never forget the story of how when he was schtupping Kathryn Harrold, she thought it great fun to see him sitting behind Moynihan in a Senate hearing, call his beeper to watch him on CSPAN walk off to a phone, he had to tell her not to do it any more.
Says a great deal about how seriously actors take the business of our government.
Sorry, the usual word spelled properly but not what I wished to use boo boo — but should be by at the end of my first paragraph.
Glen Beck said on his radio show this morning that she set him an email 4 AM this morning saying that she has been receiving threat and is worried about her business.
I suspect Glenn will talk about this on his show today.
It will be single payer for me and for thee, unless we go offshore. I am investigating certain possibilities in that area for my wife. She is diabetic and afraid to retire from teaching because of this health care bill. If that is what comes down then we calculate that we need to get offshore to a place where her meds will still be available and refrigeration
and reliable electricity, too.
