He threatened them. He said, “Listen, we've got the votes to pass this thing. It can either be painful for you or it can be very, very painful. You can lose $80 billion in profits in the next 10 years or be bankrupt in 10 years at which point we will do to you what we did to the financial sector. What will it be?” Oh and btw, we expect $150 million in advertising from you.

Doesn't make sense. If he already has the votes, what does he need the ad campaign for, unless it's to try and smooth things over with the electorate when they cram it down our throats? This has the stench of desperation about it.

And what do these companies think they will ultimately get for this effort? Autonomy?

That's just it. We don't know what he promised them, or what it's going to cost us.

I think this bargain was struck with the hope that they could win over the public and scare Republicans enough to get them to help pass this disaster. This bargain was struck before public support had turned against obama and his agenda and the major players thought Obama had a mandate. What I don’t understand is why PhRMA doesn’t back out at this point and do everything they can to defeat this bill.

Hard to tell without knowing what’s on the table, and they won’t tell us.

Don’t you love the transparency! This from the guy who promised to broadcast all health care negotiations live of C-SPAN!

American Medical Association, FamiliesUSA, the Federation of American Hospitals, PhRMA and SEIU, the service employees’ union.

Who are these people and why should I care what they think? I know who they are, but will average Americans?
Thank you George Soros for your support of Marxism in America. Can we have another 5 million please? What a guy! (/sarc)

“We applaud members on the House Energy & Commerce Committee for passing a bipartisan biosimilars amendment that strikes an appropriate balance between the desire for enhanced competition and preserving incentives for innovation. Such incentives are vital for ensuring continued development of biologics that patients with complex diseases rely on today and will help to provide cures in the future. Recently, the Senate HELP Committee also agreed overwhelmingly to support this important provision.

for biosimilars, read *generics*.

THIS is what the pharmaceutical industry got in exchange.

Seems to me they may be counting chickens in the pharmceutical industry, since these bills are only just out of committee, not yet passed. I suppose they will become amendments to the health care travesty.

My husband is on medication. We have insurance. We never submit the bill to his insurance company because Walgreen’s and Walmart fill them for $4, or $10 for 3 months worth. No reason to have the provider increase his premium any sooner than they will, anyway.

So Big Pharma is backing Big Government because apparantly, two crooks are better than one for looting the U.S. economy.
