While waiting for a flight at the Paris Air France club lounge yesterday, I logged into to their free computers to catch US news and found that they used OLFEO to block the following sites: Free Republic (blocked as pornographic), National Review, Hot Air, Foxnews Nation, Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Brent Bozell, Steyn Online, Joe Sobran, American Spectator, American Thinker, Powerline and Canada Free Press.
Yet, unblocked sites were Huffington Post, Democratic Underground, and Daily Kos.
The Air France staff on hand had no explanation and since it was 4:50 PM and this was Europe there was no one there to deal with it.
Isnt it amazing that the extreme leftist sites are allowed but National Review is blocked.
Well maybe with the state of the world as it is, it isnt that amazing.
Virgin Air lounge in London, had no such censorship in their club.
I am sure you could probably hit the Jihad sites with no problem too. Censor only conservatives, and France wonders why their country is going in the toilet.
Looks like Soviet Russia rolled on through France after all, despite Patton’s Third Army.....
The free wireless at Charlotte-Douglas doesn’t block anything that I know of, LOL.
Prolly coming to the USA soon.
Which airport were you at? I can get FR in TPE, SFO, IAD, and NRT.
Well it is France, after all. You would be lucky to get a news site of any sort given their lack of objectivity in the state press.
Some corporate IT types err on the side of caution and block just about everything that could be considered mildly controversial. If you were accessing the net via a corporate network (which this lounge may actually have had), you could have fallen victim to the filters that corporations use to keep their employees from “internet grazing”, when they should be working (as unlikely as that sounds in France). :-)
When I email a friend in France she indicates almost none of my conservative articles I send her get through the censors.
France has censors on the internet??????
Recently a French Dr was posting on FR - he obviously gets through.
Good point! The simplest explanation is the most logical.
I have confirmation that they censor email. Someone posting on FR is a completely different electronic process.
fight france...

I did not need another reason to dislike france or to avoid their products and certainly never to travel there, but that you anyway for adding another reason to my list.
