White House Spokeswoman: Skepticism of ObamaCare's End-of-Life Counseling is 'Cruel'

Are you wary of the federal government using taxpayer dollars to advise senior citizens on "end-of-life" issues? If so, you're just "cruel," according to former ABC reporter Linda Douglass, now the communications director for the White House Office of Health Reform.

Douglass appeared on MSNBC's Aug. 12 "Dr. Nancy," with host Nancy Snyderman. Snyderman pointed out that some of the discussion about end-of-life care is just craziness and these "rumors" are difficult to combat (even though there is precedent for governments involved heavily in health care to take such measures, as Michelle Malkin pointed out.)

There are a lot of "cruel" people in the country if the White House definition is really the true definition for cruel...

Oh right, anything but discuss the REAL issue. The proposed plan WILL increase taxes on already overburdened taxpayers AND to date, the U.S. Government has delivered absolutely NOTHING in a way that is efficient or cost effective!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, denying Granny treatment for her disease in favor of the cheaper end of life option is cruel.

The ‘rumors’ are not difficult to combat, Ms. Douglass. Your boss gets prime-time coverage every time he wants to open his mouth. All he has to do is stand before the media and before an American audience and give specific answers to the questions that are being raised by concerned citizens (’please refer to page...’). And, if he doesn’t have the specific answers, then he needs to put folks in front of a camera who knows what the heck they’re talking about. The only fact that your boss was able to articulate in Tuesday’s campaign stop in NH was that UPS and FEDX ran their operations better than the U.S. Post Office. People understood that, Ms. Douglass, and I’m sure they’d understand your boss if he spoke similar truths.

“These are such hard conversations for people to have inside their families,” Douglass continued. “Adult children sometimes say, ‘Oh mom, oh dad - you’re going to live forever, let’s not talk about it.’ I mean, all this is, is the opportunity, voluntarily if a senior wants to have a conversation about a living will, to have this conversation conducted with a medical professional, covered by Medicare.”

If it’s just an “opportunity”...if it’s “voluntary”, then why is it part of the proposed LAW?

if a private insurance company sent an end-of-life couselor to talk with an elderly patient, they’d be getting ripped to shreds as the lead story on 60 Minutes that Sunday

End of life counseling should involve:

You
Your doctor
Your family
Your pastor (or priest, rabbi, or whatever depending on your religion.)

That’s it.

It should not involve:

The government
Some social worker you know nothing about

Have you thought of Obama as Kermit the Frog?--he was king of all he surveyed. The King frog sees all of us as his subject frogs. He and his head jumpers have a huge caldron over the fire. The water is warm and they are urging us all to jump into the nice warm, soothing water. If we do, they will gradually turn up the heat until we will all be frog leg dinners.

Thanks, BO, but no thanks!

‘Have you thought of Obama as Kermit the Frog?’

Hey, don’t insult Kermit by comparing him to Zero. ;-)

Now, now, they are talking about “Death Panel” comments that even FNC Cavuto and Megn Kelly said are nonsense.

Most places you would be well advised to have attorney there as well for the appropriate verbiage

No insult to Kermit intended. Obama just thinks he is like Kermit--King of all he surveys. Of course, Kermit could not see very far; O is looking at the whole world--he is a very ambitious frog.

If I could do the artwork some on here do, I would show a King frog on top of a stack of frogs (that is how dr.Seuss' frog king enlarged his kingdom) and put O's face on it.

Come to think of it, I may be confusing THAT frog king with Miss Piggy's friend, Kermit.

The only name I remember from Dr. Seuss is Mack--the little frog who got tired of being swamped under the pile and started a revolt that brought the kingdom down.

There are a lot of Mack's out here and I hope we can achieve the same result.

Not as cruel as taking health care away from old people. We need to scrap this bill and start over.

As long as the attorney is paid by me and not the government.

People act in the best interest of their employers. When a doctor, nurse, or attorney is paid by me they will act in my best interest.

A doctor, nurse, attorney (or govt. social worker) being paid by the govt. will act in the best interest of the govt., not me.

I trust my family and pastor to act in my best interest because they love me. I’ve yet to find a govt. employee that feels that way.

The President's healthcare plan better qualifies for the word “torture” than anything that happened at Gitmo.

Absolutely. I am not in favor of anything in the “health” reform act.

Three things will bring about the improvement that everyone says they want
1) TORT REFORM this is highest indexer of health care costs

2)Get rid of government MANDATES

3) medical savings accounts

easy as pie doesn’t take 1000 plus pages

No, taking the position it’s ok to dispose of abortion-surviving infants like so much trash is cruel.

Not standing up for freedom fighters in Iran is cruel.

Favoring the position of adherents of a death cult such as islam is cruel.

Shall we go on, Dr. Nancy? I’ve got a LOT more!
