This afternoon, President Obama awards Senator Edward Kennedy a Presidential Medal of Freedom the nation's highest civilian honor. According to a spokesman, Kennedy will not attend the ceremony -- his oldest child, Kara Kennedy will accept the award for him. Also present will be his other children, Ted, Jr. and his wife Kiki, Patrick, Caroline Raclin and Curran Raclin.
Kennedy will remain at home in Mass., where he is fighting brain cancer. He was diagnosed last year in May.
Kennedy is among 16 recipients this year, who have made an "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural, or other significant public or private endeavors," a July 30 White House announcement read. "This year's awardees were chosen for their work as agents of change.''
After being named for the award, Kennedy's office immediately released a statement saying he was "profoundly grateful to President Obama for this extraordinary honor."

They showed Ted visiting the Schriver home last night. He’s not long for this world.
Ted is a despicable man from a like family. He may have received a “pass” from a rigged court in Mass but he will not get past the pearly gates. He will go to a hot place and I don't mean a pick-up bar!
Thanks Ted and thanks Barack.
I saw a similar photo in ,IIRC, Approach Magazine except it was an old beater of a pick up. It was intended to be a morale booster for what was likely to be a long, boring deployment.
He doesn't deserve a medal. He deserves a jail cell!
