'One-size-fits-all' healthcare not tailored for U.S.

A Republican leader in the U.S. Senate says the healthcare proposals being debated in Congress "miss the point" that most Americans like the healthcare they have, but the cost of that care is a problem.

Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) opposes the "pay or play" mandate for small businesses and employers under the proposed government-run healthcare option, and he believes the government option will ultimately leave 119-million Americans with no option but the government plan.

Although there is little agreement between Republicans and Democrats on the public healthcare option, Cornyn contends there is a lot of consensus on what can be done to bend the cost curve.

"We all, I think, believe that insurance markets should be reformed, increase competition, and ensure those with pre-existing conditions get access to care. The problem is that most of what we're hearing out of Washington is a one-size-fits-all overhaul," he points out, "and instead I think it would be more productive to talk about state-based solutions that reform healthcare from the bottom up, not from the top down."

We need about 75% less central government!

The Congressional representation needs to understand what the 'original' responsibility consisted of: a part-time job representing the interests of their respective states.

We do need a government bill to change what is hurting us, which are things the government has been doing wrong for years.

Right now you cannot buy insurance in a large group pool if you are an individual or part of a small subset of Americans.

A bill would have to pass to enable that reform. It would save a sizable number of Americans a huge amount on health insurance.

Right now you can only buy insurance that is offered in your state of residence. Yeah, if a policy is better or cheaper in a nearby state to yours, you cannot buy it.

You cannot take your insurance with you when you change employers if your employer buys your insurance. If you are out of work for awhile or have to take a job without health benefits you LOSE the insurance you had with your employer.

Tort reform to limit dollar awards in malpractice lawsuits would have to pass in order to reign in the trial lawyers - such as John Edwards and his ilk - which is driving doctors out of the profession and especially certain specialties and driving up the cost of medicine. These trial lawyers are mostly Democrats who turn around and massively donate their riches to the Democrat party.

When you say we need no legislation you are simply wrong.

The problem is the government we have now doesn’t want to fix any of the fixable problems; it just wants to take over the system and destroy the good parts as we have known them.

Agreed. However per the speculations of one clever poster yesterday, the US Government NEEDS a takeover of a larger share of the US economy so they can feed upon a greater portion of GDP.

The government is broke. Taking over the healthcare industry is a means to sustain their wild-@ss spending spree.

We are cycling down to financial lock-down mode as quickly as we can. Recommend you do the same.

If speculation is correct, the deathcare bill will pass no matter what. It's not the will of the people, it the government not willing to give up the power grab nor cut costs.
