You can't hit what you can't see. A Pepper Blaster shoots at over 90mph, instantly disabling an attacker for up to 45 minutes. It's much more powerful than you may realize.
Given a choice, I'd prefer to have my .45. But as in this event, with Secret Service personnel everywhere it might not have been too practical.
Texas Pete diluted in a spray bottle works fine, eyes are the thing.
