Illegals Will be Counted in the U.S. Census

California could get nine House seats it doesn’t constitutionally rate because illegal aliens will be counted in 2010, concluded an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal.

The forthcoming census, which determines the apportionment of House members and Electoral College votes for each state, will be counting all persons physically present in the country -- without regard to the legality of their status.

Set for big gains thanks to illegal populations is not only California but Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York and Texas, according to the Census Bureau’s 2007 American Community Survey data.

California has 5,622,422 noncitizens in its population of 36,264,467. Based on a round-number projection by the WSJ authors of a decade-end population in the Golden State of 37,000,000 (including 5,750,000 noncitizens), California would have 57 members in the newly-reapportioned U.S. House of Representatives.

“However, with noncitizens not included for purposes of reapportionment, California would have 48 House seats (based on an estimated 308 million total population in 2010 with 283 million citizens, or 650,000 citizens per House seat),” noted the report authors.

Meanwhile, using a similar projection, the authors noted that Texas would have 38 House members with noncitizens included. With only citizens counted, it would be entitled to 34 members.

Getting counted might seem at first blush a good thing for illegals, but there is a movement afoot to encourage illegals to boycott the 2010 census.

As reported this week by sjnewsco, Rev. Miguel Rivera, head of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders (CONLAMIC), urged the boycott on attendees at a meeting of local migrant workers and sympathizers held at a Salvation Army facility in South Jersey.

"We realize that the census is very important in setting Congressional districts and determining the distribution of funds," Rivera said.

If ACORN is doing the counting why not just let them write down any number they want, and save them the trouble of committing farce?

Hard to believe this won’t rate a court challenge. I’m betting that in the end Justice Kennedy (the most powerful judge in the world since he is the Supreme Court swing vote) will decide our fate. I would rather leave it up to Scalia or Roberts.

Why don’t we compromise and only count 3/5 of the illegals??

I’ve seen people here defend this. “Good! The census is to show who is here! Not who we WISH was here.”

Looks like Congressmen will be rationed. We know the big winners. Who will be the big losers?

I saw a guy on Sean Hannity’s FNC show saying, “Sean, the constitution said we were 3/5ths of a person! That is wrong!” Sean didn’t even challenge him on how that was a move to limit the power of the slaveholding states. That is one of the most misunderstood things in US history and nobody wants to set the record straight.

This will lead to massive re-districting by state legislatures before the 2012 election..

We may vote Republicans into Congress in 2010, but by 2012 it will be all over for the Congressional GOP.

I have heard a rumor that there is a real backlash, finally. There will be quite a few citizens and legal residents who will either refuse to play or understate the number of residents in their household.

Personally, in California the parasites (public employees and public assistance types) still haven't got the message that they can't keep getting more and more of the money the honest taxpayers don't have.
I hope the federal spigot is also dry.

They should be counted.
We need to know where law enforcement efforts should be taking place.
We need to know which states are harboring criminals
But under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should an illegal criminal aliens count towards representation. They are not represented because they legally, are not here and do not exist.

On the San Antonio Craigslist MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense Fund) is looking to hire a Community Activist/Media Specialist to to promote the Latino community’s participation in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of the Census decennial population count in 2010.

I notice it never uses the word Hispanic Speaking Citizens, just communities & population.

If this scam La Raza Sensus is used then it is all over. I will ignore the census. They can threaten me - but I will not participate.

I am a little ignorant on redistricting. Does this mean they will combine smaller conservative rural districts and give more congressmen to heavily urban and illegal infested areas? If that is the case, Conservatism is dead, especially if not only these illegals get counted, but they get amnesty and the right to vote.

The reality is, it doesn’t matter.
The census will in no way be accurate.
Like voter registration the amount of fraud will be staggering and render any number at the end meaningless.

"If ACORN is doing the counting why not just let them write down any number they want"?

That's how the Secretary of State (Jennifer Brunner) counted votes in the 2008 election here in Ohio.
