Have you ever read a living will or medical power of attorney document? Or, talked with anyone who has these?

My understanding is that living wills are so riddled with holes that they lead to euthanasia today, committed by hospital beancounters.

Power of attorney can only be abused by the holders (either by malice or neglect), so make sure that you hand it to someone who is pro-life and will keep his wits about him in a crisis despite, for example, the attractive young female beancounter who suddenly wants to console him in his grief with paperwork that will "bring closure", etc.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I mean, it's not like laws with death panel potential could every be actually used here, as they have been against millions of people in other countries. No, in America, we can just trust that the government will always interpret the laws for our maximum personal, individual, life-protecting welfare, not matter what technical options that silly old fine print gives them.

I’m not one to speak about my personal life on the Internet, even in the abstract, but I doubt seriously if any American over the age of 10 hasn’t known someone who died after a DNR was placed. This legislation allows the DNR to be filed without written consent of the patient or next of kin.
