WASHINGTON (CNN) The first primary contest of the 2012 election cycle is more than two years away, but some Republicans are already voting sort of.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee which assists GOP Senate candidates e-mailed a "Proxy Ballot" to some supporters on Monday asking them which Republican leader is their top choice for the Republican presidential nomination. The survey also asks Republicans to rank the importance of issues like health care, abortion rights and taxes.

She was one of a number of governors to step down early just this year alone—but she’s the only one who’s had an issue made of it because she is politically important nationally.
The Democrats were Cloward-Pivening her and Alaska to death with false ethic filings which ironically gave her the legitimate claim that she was stepping down for the good of the state. This was only possible of course because she had a simpatico lieutenant, whom she also helped by giving him a head start on the governorship.
I have much more respect for her stepping down 18 months early from her term than I do for the way Romney ran for president full-time, largely campaigning out of state for the last two years of his one term as governor of Massachusetts.
She’s obviously fighting a larger fight and already got lots, including her campaign promises, accomplished for Alaska, so there’s nothing quitter about her at all.
Egads.
Stay out the Bushes!
Stay out the Hucakbees!
Stay out the Pawlentys!
Stay out the Romneys!
Stay way out the McCains!
Plus Palin has much explaining to do.
The RNC is stuck on stupid.
I don’t think Dr. Paul is going to run again but, he would be a better choice than McQueeg or Romney. IMO.
McCain? Romney? Bush 3? Gingrich?
NRSC rally cry:
We want to lose again! We want to lose again!
Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provide
It was really disturbing to learn that John McCain was running last time, and then that he had a decent chance of winning the nomination.
It’s going to be infuriating if that happens again with Romney.
Closing primaries will only mean the ‘rats have to declare themselves Republicans for the purpose of voting in one election. I don’t see that as a major obstacle.
They’ll do it and vote ABP — anyone but Palin.
Six of one, half dozen of another.
Both Jindal and McCain ARE NATURAL BORN CITIZENS. Deal with it. Jindal was born in the USA, that makes him a citizen. McCain was born in the Canal Zone, in a US Navy facility, to natural born citizens serving in the US military abroad.
There have be at least twenty law review articles addressing the belief that, while McCain’s allegiance is unquestioned, he doesn't meet the constitutional requirements. Most say that the issue is that he was born in an hospital in Colon. Panama does observe “jus soli” principles which make a child born on Panamanian soil a citizen. Even if they didn't, even the Canal Zone, in 1936, was not considered US territory. We may believe that he deserves a chance, but there is no right to be president. Amazingly, children of U.S. servicemen born before 1936 on Coco Bolo Naval Base have been deported because they were not US citizens (Read the Gabriel Chin article on Natural Born Citizenship in the Michigan Law Review).
If you remember anything, remember born of parents who are citizens, and on US soil. Unless the constitution is amended, that is the law. There have been many attempts to amend it, over 24, none successful. The issue is allegiance. You can read the Federalist Papers; John Jay wrote articles 2-5 on allegiance. Then Jay asked Washington to change the Article II Section 1, June 18 1887 draft from “citizen of the U.S.” to require “natural born citizen.” There is much written about this, and the courts may decide to reinterpret the common law, but the definition has been repeated a number of times in decisions.
