A Scottish soldier has been praised for making the longest recorded kill in Afghanistan after shooting a top Taliban fighter from almost a mile away. Corporal Christopher Reynolds took out the Afghan drug lord during some of the hardest fighting of the war so far.
The 25-year-old, of 3 Scots, The Black Watch, kept watch on a shop rooftop for three days to eliminate the target.
But he admitted the top-level Taliban fighter known as Musa was so far away it took him a couple of attempts to get the aim right.

I'm sure the mighty fine U.S. Army and USMC have guys who can pull off shots like the one this. If only the media would give them a little recognition once in a while. Pity.
BUMP
Aye....Practice makes perfect.....
Unfortunately, the kill will be disqualified from the Guinness Book Of World Records, because there was too much pine tar on the rifle butt.
Great Scot!
He’s probably miserable about the two bullets he had to waste before he hit Musa.
Further down TFA, you’ll see one of his buddies took out another Taliban with a Javelin missile launcher...
...that had to irritate the parsimonious Scots!
Not even close to the longest sniper kill shot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Furlong
BTTT
I think a Canadian sniper made a shot of considerably more than a mile a few years back. The range was so extreme that the sighting scope had to be adjusted to correct for a 28 foot drop.
Looks like many an American kid in the military from probably the SE USA of Scottish descent. They have made up a large part of the US Military over the years.
I wonder what rifle he used? 1500 meters with a Barrett should not be impossible but another gun would be very hard.

My son, a former Marine, has seen our snipers in action in Beirut. We do have those who can pull of shots like this one.
The Canadian sniper teams in Afghan have been busy and effective.
...more than 1,500 metres away...
That’s link describes a fantastic achievement. Thanks for posting it!
As for TFA — do you think those Brit newspaper writers do anything more than a cursory factcheck? Heck, it’s probably a small achievement that any Britpaper is reporting on the WOT.
I forgot about him, but you are right. I wonder why the story didn’t fact check that little thing (oh never mind, it is the media).. still, an amazing shot.
Thread BUMP.
