A senior Israeli diplomat said that his government's row with the White House over Jewish settlements in the West Bank was causing strategic damage to the country's relationship with the United States.
The unusual rebuke came from an internal memo by Nadav Tamir, Israel's General Consul in Boston that was leaked to the Channel Ten, an Israeli television station. In the memo Mr Tamir wrote that the high-profile dispute over a settlement freeze was causing Israel great harm.
"Nowadays, there is a sense in the United States that Obama is being forced to deal with obduracy from the governments of Iran, North Korea, and Israel," he wrote in the leaked memo.
"The administration is making an effort to play down the disagreements, and we are the ones who are actually making the differences public."
He also noted that the dispute, the sharpest rift in US-Israel relations in about a decade, was causing Israel to lose support among "a significant amount of American Jewish supporters".
A spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Friday saying that memo reflected the diplomat's "personal views" and described that the document itself as "unprofessional".
The US and Israel have long disagreed about the controversial subject of Jewish settlement in the West Bank, an area the Palestinians hope to make part of a future state. But despite US officials describing settlements as violations of international law, the differences on the topic were kept on a low flame.
The new US administration under the direction of US President Barack Obama has publicly pushed for a settlement freeze in hopes that such a commitment might secure support for regional peace gestures by more moderate Arab countries.

Israel needs to trust in the God of Israel and His only begotten Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Israel needs to throw off all political ties with the hateful democrat-communist greeenie-anti semites of the left and rino right and tell them to go to hell in a hand basket and take the monies with them. America is dying anyway and will be broke with the communist democrats robbing all taxpayers.
Israel is a sovereign nation and should declare themselves so and build industry and expand settlements and business on their own with the help of the God of Israel. America and all communist nations who say their is no god can go to the hell they so richly deserve for their arrogance and greed and lies and thieving and slander and unthankfulness.
Israel will always be a nation before God Almighty our Father and His Son our Lord Jesus Christ will be King over all the earth in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit teaches us who read and say the Scriptures are truth, God help us and save us from the godless sinners who hate God, Christ, family, and country and from their master Satan, whom God will cast in the lake of fire at the end of the Millennial rule of our King Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour of all men who believe Him only.
Israel will learn this when Jesus Christ destroys all the nations that will come to fight against Israel at the end of the 7 year tribulation, the wrath of God against those who hate Christ Jesus our Lord and our Saviour.
God bless the nation of Israel and deliver them from all their godless enemies in America and worldwide and from their leader, Satan.
Come, Lord Jesus. Rule and reign in the midst of all thine enemies. Jerusalem is thy throne and Israel thy people and thy created nation and thy work in the earth.

I'm sure the document was "leaked". Yeah right. The same so-called criticism this jackass alleges against his own gov't actually applies *instead* (iow, not in addition to) his own conduct here.
